17 degrees is optimal for a vld type chamfer tool. The normal 45 works with anything. If you gotta have a vld type i suggest the k&m. It has a stop for the case mouth because you can ruin brass in a hurry with the vld type. Half the neck will be tapered inside before you realize its cutting. I just use the old normal style. Works just fine.
