The new knee

The titanium knee as of today. Replaced on the 15th, ripping pain for 7 days at least, then started to subside. 80% worst pain gone, still sore though.
Darn oxycodine flat out knocked me out after using the meds at home, woke up in a bad dizzy spin after taking it 2x. Yup I stopped as it was not good for meniers I have.
Its nasty to to be knocked out, then wake with crazy spinning brain for 5 hrs.
Can now move around a lot better, still using the walker and working off it to a cane.
Physical therapy going well, thats the most important part of recovery.

I had both knees done with a couple of years apart.....the hardest part was the therapy....rewarding but brutal

I had one done. A year out pain free. Stiff but no pain. I would tell your doctor about the oxycodone. Lots of weaker meds available. It has been proven that controlling pain aids the healing process. Hang in there.

Dave.

My knee was fouled up for decades and I finally had it replaced six weeks ago. The first couple weeks were pretty rough. I'm at six weeks now and getting around better but the strengthening and stretching exercises keep it sore a lot of the time. Ibuprofen helps.

I’m 12 weeks into my second ankle fusion with 4 more weeks to go. I also had trouble with my pain meds. Now that -I’ve started physical therapy I’m making good progress. This “getting old” ain’t for sissy’s! E

Make sure you do the physical therapy three times a day if you can. And make sure you can straighten out the leg and work at increasing how far back you can bend it. Of course, walk around too.

I feel for you Jim. My grandmother had both hers done at the same time at 70 years old. I seen the pain she went thru. My wife and I sat with a Church member, lady, just yesterday waiting for her knee replacement. They set her up with a pain blocker. I also do not like any kind of drug hangover. If it happens I stop taking them and deal with it such as with tylenol. Heal quickly, prayers sent your way and when the time come get back out on the prairie.

Don't know if any of you have had to have this done, but if after a few weeks since the surgery, if you can't make a certain amount of flexibility during PT, the Dr will perform a "manipulation". This is to loosen up the new knee to loosen any scar tissue. They put you under, grab your ankle and force the heel of your foot to touch your butt cheek.....it's a good thing they put you under when they do this. The force is so hard, I had a handprint bruise on my ankle for a couple of days from the Dr forcing the foot to get that extreme range of motion. The Dr told me he did a "manipulation" on an 80 year old and actually broke her leg bone doing it.....yikes!

Mine was replaced 6 Mar. Dr. said it will take about a year before you feel really good. Done with therapy but still doing some of the exercises at home. Still have some pain. Other knee now hurting but I hope I don't need to do the other knee.

My sister had Meniers very bad. She went to Dr Cherchi in private practice at Northwestern. She has it under complete control. Let me know if I can help.

My brother-in-law had his right knee done. He said it was one of the easiest surgery he had gone through. So...About 5 months later they did his left knee. He said he thought he was going to faint from the pain!

I just got back from PT this morning. Day 38 and it is getting more flexible-115 degrees flexion today. Started doing some jobs this week, have a bigger one coming up that will be a full day or more in the crawl space of an office building replacing a water source heat pump. That will be the real test. I graduated from the walker on day two and the crutches after one week. I am supposed to be able to ski again this winter, which has been too painful for the last few years to make more than one run in the backcountry.
