The new knee

The titanium knee as of today. Replaced on the 15th, ripping pain for 7 days at least, then started to subside. 80% worst pain gone, still sore though.
Darn oxycodine flat out knocked me out after using the meds at home, woke up in a bad dizzy spin after taking it 2x. Yup I stopped as it was not good for meniers I have.
Its nasty to to be knocked out, then wake with crazy spinning brain for 5 hrs.
Can now move around a lot better, still using the walker and working off it to a cane.
Physical therapy going well, thats the most important part of recovery.

I’m in the same boat. New knee went in on the 18th of July.

Knee pain isn’t so bad two weeks out but sciatica pain has been kicking my butt.

Cheers to recovery!

had both knee's done they work a lot better than the old one's . it's been three years there ok now
I can walk pretty good now . but best advise I can give is to ride a life cycle as much as you can .
and for any of my fellow shooters if you are thinking about getting a knee done do the therapy before
you the surgery get in as good shape as you can. the rehab will be a lot easier and recovery shorter.
me and my wife did it that way .and we both are good in short time. hope this helps . Good luck buddy!

I hear what you mean about the Oxy. Can't handle that stuff, Hydrocodone either. Body just doesn't function right on that stuff. Was in the hospital in Valdosta in '21 and told them I couldn't handle the opioids. They put me on Tramadol instead. That crap gave he hallucinations! Drove the nurses nutty.

I had both my knees replaced at the same time just over 4 years ago, aged 62, best thing ever. Now my legs bend in the middle and they don't hurt, like they used to!!
All done by ROSA, robotic operative Surgical assistant, A computer programme is made from X-rays sent to somewhere in Canada, it is emailed back to Australia and loaded into ROSA.
The joint is opened up and exposed, and the all cutting of bone is done to within half a millimetre accuracy, all the while maintaining the correct tension on ligaments that hold the joint together post surgery.
I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, without out question.
Get into the rehab physio and smah it as hard as you can, then, give yourself plenty of time to rest and repair.
I did 4 hr rehab sessions 3 times per week and threw away crutches after 9 days post surgery and never used them again.
I hunt regularly and my wife and I are off to South Africa in October for a 7 day hunting Safari.
Don't let painful joints hold you back, you're only here once.

Cheers,
Mal the Kiwi.

I have friends that have had knee replacement and all said the same thing.

I have that joy to look forward in the future. I've been a candidate for both knee replacements for about 17 years. I'm 75 now.

Holding out by having cortizone injected, and as of now, it's working.

Good luck to OP and all.

Mine were done 7 weeks apart in 2022 (Oct & Nov), I couldn't miss shooting season! Partial on left wasn't bad at all BUT the full on the right was a different story! Lordy, pain was so bad they gave me oxycodone AND Hydrocodone. Call me in a year, you'll still have some pain but do the PT and you'll do great!

My wife had both knees done (but 6 months apart).
I made a small flat 'track' of MDF (about 18" long with about 1/2" high sides) that a skateboard would fit into.
She would sit there on a chair with her foot on the skateboard and skoosh it backwards and forwards.
That gave her some mobility exercises until she could get onto a spin bike (exercycle?).
Until she had that mobility she couldn't get her leg over the frame of the exercyle.
We used Lavender Essential Oil (the real stuff...not the flavoured oil for oil burner things), on the knee.
The Lavender Oil will help draw out the bruising and is good for keeping the wound clean too.
Yeah, OK...I'm not a hippy...but have used the Lavender Oil for 30+ years now. It does work.
Put it on neat. It's one of the few Essential Oils that can be used directly.

Had my hip replacement performed may 1st. Diagnosed at age 6 with Leg Perthes disease. It kills the ball part of your hip. At age 53 I'd had enough, decided it was time. I was 2 inches short in the left leg. The new hip didn't hurt too bad. The stretching of all my muscles and tendons was/is BRUTAL! Just now getting around semi decent. Lost 30 lbs in the 1st 2.5 weeks, couldn't eat anything without throwing it back up. Had me on 22 pills per day. Once I stopped them I could eat. Then, the muscle relaxer I was on started making me shake in my hands extremely bad. Plus, it made me where I couldn't talk without getting lost in the conversation, I would just lock up. Finally got off of the relaxer, it all went away. It's been a BAD deal, I was regretting it up until about 2.5 weeks ago, just started feeling better 1 day, going pretty decent since then. The picture of my ankle is from 2016, compound fracture. Same leg as my bad hip. Had about 7-8 inches of bone coming out of my leg. Wouldn't recommend. Anyway, heal up fast all you that have had something worked on, I know what you're going through. Screenshot_20240506_165445_File Viewer.jpgResized952016102095151923001.jpg20161130_152428.jpg
