Ring tops are lapped on the bar for a nice fit, then cleaned with acetone, mold release wax applied to all surfaces except the contact area, the screws given a light coat of thin lube and the rig tops are buttered up with epoxy:

The ring tops are snugged down to equalize the side gaps but not so much as to push too much epoxy out. We want a thickness of epoxy so it isn't prone to chipping:

After a couple hours, the semi hardened excess will be peeled off and a bit of clean up done with vinegar and QTips. The tops will come off after about 24 hrs.

Pretty well complete for next seasons Hunter wars. As it sit, it's 9 lbs./15 oz. with a full profile 20" Hunter contour barrel that's 4 lbs/14 oz, an 18 oz. steel tube T6, steel trigger guard and extra tall Kelbly's double rings. A Burris HBR scope can pare 4 oz., an alum trigger guard another oz. and there's maybe another oz. in some different rings. That can go in the weight system I'll finish up soon. An alum. butt plate will add another 2 ounce. I hedged bets on weight in anticipation of the Hunter rules possibly going to 10.5 lbs. in the near future.

This is top plate is from Field And Cave....works great for lapping and bedding rings. I do have an Ezell scope checker.

The PTG ADL trigger guard got some mill work. I like these guards because of the straight drop at the rear. I broke my right middle finger pretty badly in my teens (long story) and it won't close completely. Turning the PTG guard around gets even more clearance for my finger.

With the 10 lbs Hunter weight, it comes in at 9lbs/14.5 oz. with the 18 oz. steel tube T6 and a 3/16" aluminum butt plate. The Sightron (on the gun) is 15 oz. and the Burris HBR is 13.5 so the weight tube can get a bit of ballast with all three. The HBR taper barrels are two lightly used 30 WolfPups...a 17 Lederer and a 17 Kostyshyn. A new PacNor twisted 1:18 is being chambered with the JGS '30BR Robinett V2' by 'Humble' Henry Rivers.

My wife really liked the shabby chic' look of the stock so after the body work was done, I hit it with several coats of a matte clear. A friend builds rat rods so we grabbed some pics today with a couple of his personal rides.

I know you have a reason, but why so tall on the rings?

I was wondering about the tall rings, as well. Any method to the madness, or just personal preference?

On the rings...my preference is for taller rings so I can keep my head as upright as possible. Combined with a shorter L.O.P. (12-1/2" to 12-3/4"), this lets me get behind the gun better without my face getting against the side of the butt.

Butt length is one of those things that most BR shooters don't adjust for their own situation and style of shooting....it can really make a difference.

Growing up, the local Catholic church hosted Golden Gloves amateur boxing events every Friday night. Our north side neighborhood was a mix of large blue collar working families. We were used to mixing it up to solve disputes so those events drew kids from the neighborhood like flies.

The best fight cards happened in the park across the street from the Golden Gloves event...without gloves, of course. Stuff got settled and your place in the pecking order on the North side of town got established. When it gets damp and cold, my right middle finger and left ring finger are achy reminders of a couple of those dust ups.

I have enjoyed this thread and want to share my project. I originally called it the "Rat Rod".
The barreled action and the stock were sourced from sellers on here. The stock is an old 40X KS that had been "customized". Some Bondo and primer got it back to shooting status. Zack at ODCR re-chambered it, and I bedded it.
I have since painted the stock, but in a way, I miss the Rat Rod look.
