New Lightweight 300 Norma Improved Ready for the Range

Thanks nakneker.
Yeah @Alex Wheeler is definitely a perfectionist and master of his trade. The work he did on my chamber and muzzle brake install is impeccable.

I have all of my rounds loaded for tomorrow. Will be testing the 220gr Berger with RL26, IMR7977, VV N570, and IMR8133. All loads will be tested at 500 yards. Will let you know how it goes
I’ll check back in, look forward to it.

Gonna try to back it up to 600 yards or farther for future testing. Will try to sort it out tomorrow. Tho I may have to shoot from my bench instead of prone on the ground.

How do you like the AG composite? Do you feel like you could do better with a Manners or McMillan? Very intrigued by the chalk branch, and it looks slick on that rifle.

Love my AG stocks. I’ve owned Manners and McMillan. AG makes a top notch stock. McMillan can match the quality of AG, but Manners is a downgrade from AG in my opinion

Got a little rag-tag shooting range set up at 635 yards. Need to build a bigger more stable bench and it was pretty windy today, but I got a couple decent groups and some good speed data.

The 92.9gr of N570 didn’t really show any high pressure signs, but the 3204fps speed may be a little too much for the 220gr in a 1 in 9 twist barrel. Had two round about 2.75” apart, but one hole was oblong like the bullet was a little unstable and could not find the third hole. Saw a bunch of small holes that looked like shrapnel from a bullet jacket that separated in flight just before the target.

I really need to get a 1 in 10 twist barrel for this rifle

Weather permitting, I will be doing two POI ladder tests tomorrow at 635 yards.

First test is with 91.7gr-92.3gr of N570 using Federal GM215M primers, seated -.010” from lands. All fired at same POA

Second is 91.7gr-92.3gr of N570 using CCI 250 magnum primers, seated -.010” from lands. All fired at same POA

CCI 250 most definitely beat the Federal GM215M primers today on the POI ladder testing at 635 yards.

CCI didn’t shoot the smallest group of the day, but that’s not what I was looking for. What I’m looking for is exactly what the CCI did with point of impact across the charge weights. The POI and pattern of all 3 charges was basically identical.

Federal primered charges were kind of all over the place. Of course there’s some shooter error on my part, but there’s no denying that CCI won. I can’t see anything tunable with the federal primer. The CCI looks VERY tunable with some seating depth and/or neck tension adjustments. Should be able to dial that node into at least 1/2 MOA quite easily.

I’ve always preached about how important primers are in a load. This just goes to show how much of a difference primer change can make.
