The Great Powder Shortage of 2020 is upon us

Sounds like you are not doing a lot of shooting. Between load development for multiple rifles and competitions of various sorts many here would burn through that stash in a couple months.

Haha, that may be true by some standards. I shoot 100rnds of BR quality across wind flags every week and I maintain a supply to support that for 3 years if everything dries up. Ive not had to go more than a year without supplies ever, but I'm also not beholden to a single brand or type of component and will switch as needed.

That said, doesn't change my point. It's rude to empty out a store and create a shortage for others.

You need to get out and shoot more. :)

P.S. Tongue in cheek. :)

During the last shortage a couple years ago , I went into my local Cabela's for primers , that nobody else wanted to use at that time . You know ; those second highest rated S&B SRP . There were still 6 , 1,000 primer packs on the shelf . Same ones that were there two weeks before , collecting dust . I put all six in my little basket , and went around the corner to look at powder . To my surprise ; there were 6 - 1lb'ers of Varget on the shelf . I put two in my basket , and a guy behind me said in a not so nice tone of voice . "HOARDER" !
I smiled at him and replied ; "If I were a Hoarder , I'd have take all six". "I left the other four bottles for other people , so take a breath" . Told him the primers had been on the shelf for over a month , and I use them in competition . If somebody really needed them , they would have bought them . Never thought about the incident till reading these posts . Those six thousand primers lasted for about two and a half years , with the 1,000 I had at home . If your using , you aren't a hoarder . If you're hoarding , you're a sub-human species . And if you are , you also know who and what you are . My opinion .

VARGET is now in stock at powder valley

I have enough of what I need and enough 22lr . And if I need more powder a quick call to a friend that usually has 8 lbs jugs of what we use are in storage. Better to be prepared than not have nothing on hand. And if food runs out at least we have an abundance of feral pigs we can shoot here in S Texas. So ham and pork chops is no problem cooking up.

Looks like my local quest for Reloader 33 is over. Just gonna have to wait it out. Settled on Reloader 25 for my 338. This thing is ridiculous waiting on powder. It's not like the entire human population uses it. Toilet paper I can understand.

N 570 is very expensive and very hard to find under normal circumstances ended up switching to retumbo about a year ago I’ve had good results with it and then it ran out I haven’t been seen any in quite a while so now I have switched to accurate Mag Pro for my 338 Lapua it’s good to have alternatives but like most people I have to be forced to try them

I'll keep that in mind. The RL25 looks pretty good. I'll see what I come up with until RL33 is back in circulation.

I've seen/bought N570 three times in 2019. I only saw Retumbo once.

I said I switched to Mag Pro but that was the only thing I could find that was close on the burn rate chart and they only had one 8 pound jug left so I bought it I will try to work up a load and see how it goes

I'm poor. I buy 1 pound and pay 10 bucks for shipping and 19.95 hazmat. You can't call me a hoarder. You wonder why I poor?

hoarders scooped that up in 30 minutes 200 lbs. l called. I got zero.
there was 154 8lb jugs available when I ordered my 1 8 lb jug that is 1232 lbs on hand. I knew when i posted this it would not take long to see it all sold. lots of users here that do not post but do buy.

not hoarders, users.....

I think I can safely say, anyone that buys 1200 lbs of powder at once during times like we have today, is an Idiot. Just like the TP buyer buying pallets of it not concerned about kids or elderly that may need it more. Just ain't right IMO

Can you imagine standing on the loading dock surrounded by 154 8lb jugs of Varget! 1232 lbs OMG!! I'd probably have a premature imagination!!! Mike

no one could buy more than 16lbs in this case

My chosen method for mitigating powder shortages? 20 Vartarg. About 400 rounds per pound means powder goes a long long way. :).

So much easier to feed than a big mag that gulps the precious stuff at 100gns a shot! 70 rnds per pound is painful
