There was a promising young actor in the 1950s and '60s named Brandon DeWilde. He was in Shane, In Harm's Way, and Hud, three great films. Died in a car wreck.

Now the bragging will begin about how they "shot down" a balloon. Of all things. AFTER it did it's job of spying.
It's something that should have happened over the Aleutian Islands ASAP.

What intel could they get flying with the wind at 60,000 ft. that couldn't be had with civilian aircraft semi-legal?
How many Chinese fly on civilian private jets day in and day out at 30,000 ft. ?
Probably almost as many flying for the NSA.
If national security is at risk from a flyover, someone is missing the problem.
Granted, during the winter infrared mapping of warm power lines, substations, power plants and warm gas and oil lines would be easier to map than in the summer, even through a few feet of snow.
Would be an easy way to find Skynet connected devices.
Drones over Ukraine worked wonders.
