The best laid plans of mice and men....

Some poet (maybe Robert Burns) wrote these words a long time ago. However, I think that they may apply to me. I wrote on this forum a while back that I was changing directions and returning to shooting the Dasher rather than the BRA. Well, my best laid plans may not come to fruition because of my health. Last week, I found myself in the emergency room with very high blood pressure. Upon examination, an aneurism was discovered in my aorta. I have seen my family doctor and he is getting me an appointment with a cardiac specialist and I will make plans according to his recommendations. I recently received my new barrel (7.83 twist Brux) freshly chambered by Billy Stevens in Dasher. I did shoot it enough to break in the barrel, but haven't tried it in competition yet. As stated I will follow the cardiologist's advice as to whether I should shoot or not. If I don't get to compete any longer, I have had a great time and made many friends and have had the chance to meet most of the Icons of Benchrest shooting. Thanks for the memories. James

Doctors can do wondermous things these days.Get well soon my friend and come back stronger than ever.
We all miss you.God bless you and family.

James,
We've never met, but I've followed your posts through the many years you've been here and BR Central.

My dad had an aortic aneurysm (circa 2000) that nearly ruptured.
The docs operated on him for over 7 hours and got him going again.
His recovery would have been much faster had he followed doctor's orders.

But he did recover, and went on to hunt, fish and shoot for an additional 14 years.
You can too.
Take better care of yourself than he did and you'll be around for a much longer time.
You have more shooting to do, articles to write and maybe even another book to author.

James, do what your doctor says, keep a positive attitude and you'll be back quickly. I had heart bypass surgery less than a year ago and with good medical care and hard work I am back to my old self. I was shooting within 5 months of the operation, but I had to have some help moving my rest. People are amazed at how well I have done. My prayers are with you on this.

James, due to an aortic aneurism I had about 5 inches of the aorta removed and replaced with a dacron tube. And the valve replaced. 2010, still shooting.
I take this opportunity to thank you for all your great precision shooting articles. Damn I miss that magazine. And to thank you for helping us on this site with your thoughtful and methodical insight, patience, and for being a gentleman.
Modern medicine is amazing. You will be back on the range in no time

I wish you the best James. Doctors today will breeze right through the problem and you will be shooting in no time. I have great faith in surgeons who are so good its like playing a round of golf. May God be with you and may Jesus guide the surgeon to make you a well man. I am pulling for you and will pray for you. Keep us updated.
