The .243 W barrel is done. What cal now?

I am retiring a .243W chambered barrel on a 40X action that I used while trying to hit a 1000yd and further PD. The .243W required trimming after virtually every firing. Enough of that. This will be for 105-107gr bullets, unless someone convinces me to build for Tubbs new polymer tip 117’s. I want to try a .243AI, a .244, or a .244AI. Lapua cases, as you know, are available for the .243 AI, but not the .244. This will be at least a 28” barrel with a brake. Which would you all build?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Alan,
I've been shooting a 6Rem,244) for a few years and think it's great with the 115's,Berger or DTAC) a freind had been shooting a 243 AI for the same period, his rifle always seemed to be a bit finicky, shooting great one day and not so good the next, while my 6Rem is just the opposite, very consistant, the Winchester brass is not as good as Lapua but is quite good just the same, BTW that 243AI shooter friend of mine now shoots a 6Rem and is doing very well with it.

you can use Norma 7x57 brass to make a 244 or 244 ai. Pretty easy. On the 243...F*^% trimming that crap!!! I hade awesome accuracy with many 243's, but retired them all because of trimming/stretching. never again AI is the only way to go if you hate trimming. I will gladly pay extra for the dies.

Allen, why not try the 6CM. Joe Hendricks is having great success with it; virtually no case growth issues, great barrel life, aprox. 3400 rnds.), fireform Lapua 243 brass, 3000+fps with 115gr. bullets. Joe is still winning matches with over 3400 rounds on the barrel.

Gary,

What kind of barrel life are you getting with your 6mm Remington?

Thanks,

Chris
