The 22bra Thread

You said 105s, im sure you meant 75s, 80s, 85.5s, 88s, 90s, 95s.
 
Ok, another "I'm over thinking" this question...I have the 6br "go" gauge, which is used as the "no go" gauge for the 22 bra, correct? What do I use for the go gauge? Can a measurement be taken from base to ogive on the "go" gauge, then use the Whidden 22 bra full length bushing die, and set the shoulder back .02, .04 to use as a "go" gauge? It's the shorter headspace giving me fits, I can't wrap my head around...Thanks again for being patient with my OCD . rsbhunter

I use zero headspace on a 6br gauge. I think 4 thou is really too short. Sometimes it will not close on factory Lapua brass.
 
I do plan on putting the go gauge set 0 and "snug". I will make it so the bolt has a slight drag on closing on the go gauge. Not in anyway to minimize the process , but Im sure there are a couple rifles out there that have a couple thousandths one way or the other...I'm going to set the 6br go gauge tight and go from there. Again, just my ocd kicks in and I doubt what I have read from people here, who honestly are more knowledgeable than myself, tell me the correct info. That will work. When you go to chamber the parent case you should feel a tiny little rub when you lower the bolt. And that's plenty.

You are better off to go a little long even if you have to jam the fire forming loads. Much easier on the elbow then trying to slam the bolt home.
 
Well baby number 2 arrived and pretty much put a halt on my 22bra as I had limited shooting time for the past 2 months and still had a few matches left to go so needed to focus my time on that. Well things are settling down nicely around home, my finale/championship is this weekend and then it’s back to 22bra! I went out this week to see where I left off and to get a refresher on where to pick back up. A few small tweaks and had a little fun today. The rest of the 85.5’s should be here next week and then on to testing n140, n150, and 8208.

Todays load was 85.5’s at 3100fps roughly.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! On the baby...(and group). Please keep us posted on the different powders. I'm thinking of going to N150 , BUT, before I put another can of powder under the bench, I'd like to get more data on the results..Again,congratulations on the new baby.?rsbhunter

Thank you sir! I will, once the 85.5’s get here I’ll start.
Ill probably shoot the n140’s and n150 at the same time and then try 8208 once I’m done
 
I ran across a great deal on 1k box of the 85.5's . Bergers have always shot great for me, I have 100 80.0gr on the way to try also....rsbhunter

The combo put a smack down this morning on a coyote hanging too close to the father In laws shop

Seems quite a few are shooting 22bra, any issues feeding from a mag?

Im thinking this case capacity/size sounds appealing for coyote hunting shooting 55-75gr. Other thought was 22gt
 
I would think that a short action with a mag set up for the br case would work...always a little adjusting might be needed, but it would make an awesome yote rifle...rsbhunter

If you buy the expensive MDT mags they work fine. If you want to feed from a mag and you want to have the total easy button go to the 22 XC. It's super easy to tune you can shoot it fast or you can shoot it slow and it is made to feed from a magazine. None of the other cartridges are going to feed as well as the 22 XC.

I've shot both. I can't say the 22 BR ackley will out shoot the 22 XC. They are very close. Aside from the extra grains of powder the 22 XC actually has the advantage to the hunter because TUBB always has brass, and his current price is $82 per hundred for both primer types. Getting 6BR brass right now is pretty slim unless you're already set up.

In a benchrest competition that 22BR Ackley might shoot smaller. I've never shot them head to head but that would be an interesting contest. They are both really great and I love them both. I'm selling a lot of 22 stuff right now simply because the bullets are available. A lot of people are opting for the 22 XC and the 6XC simply due to the availability of brass.
