Texas Mid Range

Is it just me or is everybody shooting great lately ? Man you guys are awesome ! Jim Fowler gave us heck at our state match. I think the sport is on a high note with no end in sight. Very good shooting guys.

Hey Mike!! When you have shooters the caliber of Freddy and Ken, the sky is the limit. They are FULLY capable of running 1200 points in a 2 day event! Take a look at our F-T/R crew.. These may very well be some of the best F-T/R shooters ANYWHERE! I am VERY proud of our F-T/R shooters!

Ben , We seem to be on a roll lately. Our range record @ St.Louis has been broke 3 times this year and about every match around has a record score of some sort. Our shooting standard is very high now days. The Fclass program is excellent for shooter progress and is really showing its potential.

Great shooting Ben!!! Wish I could've made this match!

Thanks Barry! I wish you could have made it too! However, that would probably have placed me in 5th instead of 4th place!! LOL!!

Mike, I believe as we get better equipment, bullets etc.. It can only bode well for the scores in "our" sport.. There have been some hum-dingers of score of late! That's a good thing!

Ben,

Great shooting this weekend. I was cheering for you and the Dasher. I sure wanted to rub Erik a little ;D

We're going to have to get the St. Louis boys and Texas boy together for a shoot out! The level of shooting over the last few years is absolutely mind blowing....not long ago, a 1190 would have won just about anywhere you'd go..those days are over! Drop a couple of points, and you're playing catch up with little chance of winning. There is a LARGE number of shooters out there today that can win at any time. It's a pleasure shooting with all them. I predict 1200's in the near future..then we'll have to go to a 1/4 MOA target:)

Jim

Thanks Jim... Erik is an EXTREMELY good shot and besting him is a difficult task at best.. At any one match, he could SMOKE ANYONE! I have seen him shoot to an enviable position! I do believe that had we not had those "switching" and gusting winds, someone WOULD have shot a 1200 this past weekend! If we held the TSRA in July, when the dog days of summer are at hand, there would most certainly be a 1200 or two! We would also have to have Life-Flight overhead to pick up the heat stroke victims! LOL!!

Maybe we could get with Ben Brooks and Don Diffey to see if we could not put together some "grudge-match" type shoot with others! Novel idea my man>>>excellent suggestion!

Ben, had you heeded my advise to leave the Dasher at home and shoot your Shehane the outcome may have been different.

Look at Bryan Chatwell. He lost track of his 600 yard zero and cost him a miss and more points getting back on track, but he shot outstanding the rest of the way.

You are EXACTLY right! I have an amazingly hard head, however, every once in awhile a concept works it's way in.. Your advice has done that! And for that I thank you! No more Dashers even if there is a HINT that it might get a bit windy. Having said that, if we have a match where the winds are "light and variable" , the Dashers would be VERY difficult to overcome.. But I have learned Erik, T-Rust me, I have learned!! Thank You!!

This was my first major match, and only my 4th or so match in general. On Saturday, I was fortunate enough to shoot and pull targets with Greg Barkley. I probably learned more in that one day than I could over an entire year on my own. Shooting a rifle I had just picked up on Tuesday, I started the day with a 192.08, but after soaking up as much knowledge as I could throughout the day, I ended it with a 3rd match of 198.08, then opened up on Sunday with a 199.12 and 199.13 before coming back to reality. I wound up winning F T/R Master/Unclassified with an Ag of 1174.55, which would have been good enough for 3rd place High Master and 4th in Master. Needless to say, I'm beyond excited!!!

What I really like about this sport so far are the people. Being a member at Bayou Rifles in Houston, there is no shortage of top shooters for me to learn from. Bryan Schneider, Don Diffy, and Denys Baucherim(sp?) all gave great advice on my dedicated F T/R rifle build and have all been very encouraging about coming out to the club matches. Erik Cortina is another guy I met this weekend, and who offered up plenty of top notch advice. As a newcomer to this sport, its really cool to have the top shooters interact with you and treat you like they've known you for years. Freddy was someone else that made a comment to me about how well I was shooting. That stuff goes a long way.

I really appreciate all the encouragement and advice. That's the kind of thing that will bring more newbs like me out and grow your sport. And there's no way I would've shot like I did on Sunday without learning as much as I did on Saturday and all the other matches leading up to this. Thank you guys for making me feel welcome, and I look forward to lots of shooting in the future!!!

Hey Blake! I did not have the opportunity to meet you. I don't think I have seen you at our matches. I might have been out of town or something.. You did EXTREMELY well>>novice or not! There is another fellow you need to get to know>>Ray Weaver. He is also brand new and doing exceedingly well.. I have said it before and I say it again: "We, at Bayou Rifles, have some of the BEST F-T/R people anywhere"! I am VERY proud of "our" shooters! I honestly believe in some form or other of a "National Team Match" they would run away from the other teams. I am not taking away from other EXCELLENT F-T/R shooters from differing locales, just that I am amazed at the prowess of "our boys" in that endeavor..

Oh and by the way Blake, welcome to you and hope to see you at Sunday's 1000 yarder!

Hey Blake, and how about that "party" we were having in the pits on Saturday between Greg Barkley, Skip Barkley, Dean Wheeler, John Meyers, you, and I? Fun stuff isn't it? ;D

Greg, Skip, & Dean?......Thats trouble right there!....... ;D :P

Ben,
I'll try to find you at the next Bayou match. I won't be there this Sunday. Pheasant opener in SD this weekend. I'm pretty sure I've met Ray. I think I met him at the 1000 match in August. I barely got past him this weekend. I think I only had him by a handful of X's.

Hey Blake! Pheasant hunting! I have not hunted pheasants since I came down here.. I was originally from New York and I used to hunt Pheasants in Lockport>>The "Pheasant Capitol of New York"! I don't think it is / was in the same class as the Dakotas (best there is) BUT we did have good populations!

This weekend was my first big match. I attended Bayou Rifle's training day earlier this year. After putting my rifle together I've now shot 3 matches. I think I missed my Master Mid-Range Classification by .4 points. But my worst scores are getting better so I have a realistic goal to "shoot" for. Don and the rest of the guys are great. I'll also note there was some outstanding iron sight shooting this weekend. Unreal...

Don't miss looking at Jim Gleason Open scores. His first major match with proper equipment. Tried to out guess the weather and missed last relay.

Come on Jade you know those two need some kind of adult supervision...... I think Blake thought we were pulling his leg about weighing and sorting primers. ;)
