Testing ZSR Small Pistol Primers - Turkish

Ordered some Turkish SPP a few weeks ago as I see the need to expand into foreign primers. It wasn't for the price as they were $100/thousand. I was just able to get them.

Just received my order - brand name ZSR- placed 15 of them into 38 special cases- a tiny bit more force to seat them in the cases than my traditional domestic fare (which I can't find to save my life) - but not too much more force.

I'll test this little batch tomorrow at the range in my 2in SP101. This gun shoots SRP if they are standard, but not CCI 41's or Small Rifle Magnum primers.

You guys must be having an easier time finding primers than I judged by the last of commentary.

Shot the test rounds today. One required a second pass to fire which virtually never happens with domestic primers. So at present these primers will be for practice rounds only. They act a bit harder than CCI 500s in this very brief test. They may be more similar to (but not quite as hard as) some Magtech rounds I ran through one of my J frame revolvers years ago.

Got the same primers as there are none to be had in my area. Gonna be usiong them in my .45, I happen to have a large amount of small primer brass. Gonna interesting to see how they work.

FTF rate in my 2 inch Sp101 is about 10% for the first pass. They all have fired so far at pass #2.

Loaded a few into 9 mm to see if it differs in a Glock.

I sure cannot comment on the primers themselves, BUT the local indoor range I have shot at for years has been selling the same brand of 9MM ammo and everyone complains about the primers, striker-fired pistols seem to have the toughest time which is mostly what is shot there.
They work, just higher than normal amount of light strikes, but for me, as I shoot mostly revolvers, I would buy them at $100 per/M as I can't find anything else!!

I believe the cup metal is harder/thicker than in the domestic SPP I usually use. They are "practice rounds only" at this point for me.

They are however more reliable in pistol than some of the small rifle primers I have used over the Covid period. They are less difficult to ignite than CCI-41 and CCI-450.

Update:

I did a small test in 9mm with a stock Gen 3 Glock 19- 10/10 fired. Still running about 90% in the 2 inch SP101- all fire on pass #2.

Maybe you could anneal the primers to soften them up before priming the case or at least before you charge the case with powder.

Said entirely as a poor joke, please no one should try annealing live primers.
