Testing Alliant Reloder 15.5 (15 point FIVE)

quest450 et al,
We won't be publishing any 6 Dasher data I am afraid, because we don't have pressure testing capability as it isn't a SAAMI standardized cartridge.
We do have quickload inputs for the new TS 15.5, and have developed a decent amount of other loads that you can use to develop your load. The powder is slower burning than Reloder(R) 15 and Varget, so I might look at those charges as starting points for TS 15.5 load development.
Good luck, and I look forward to seeing your results.
Shoot well,
Paul
Has anyone shot it in 6 BRA?

Bruno's just got some in. :)
I can't raise any on the web site this morning either, so I'll keep trying or maybe give them a ring.

I'm still shooting RE15 in XTC even though Varget and ARComp are as good or better when you factor in temperature sensitivity. But, I'm willing to test and run 15.5 when I start up a new upper and give it a go.
...If I can get my hands on some....

I was notified yesterday afternoon by Bruno's in their email to me regarding the powders they had just got in:

I got the notice about rimfire ammo yesterday, but not the one you are showing. The irony is in CA I can't mail order ammo but I can mail order components.

I just double checked all my email and don't have that one, so I will have to wait....

Yes. Got some from Praveen to try in the 6 BRA. My testing showed that it was very close to Varget which is my powder for 6 BRA. Close as in at the identical volume I use in Varget, I got the same velocity with 15.5 that I get with Varget. Accuracy was the same as well. 15.5 will have a place in my reloading room for 6 BRA. I'd like to try it in other cartridges as well when time permits.

Are you in the 31-31.5 range,2900 ?

Another quick ladder test in different Dasher rifle, looks like there could be a low node between 31.4 and 31.8 gr and 32.0 - 32.4gr
RL15.5, Berger 108 BT , Bartlein 7.5 twist 5R

2909 velocity. Don't have my load data with me but in that range from a charge standpoint.

P.S. I did run a series of charge weights and was able to get over 3000 FPS with no signs of pressure. But in this rifle the groups started opening up. Settled on the same charge as Varget with the same velocity and accuracy.

I tried rl15.5 in the score shoot off , williamsport match 10 lg . very poor conditions . this powder yields more velocity than rl 16 . I ran 2 tenths less powder but gained 2.75 moa @ 1000 . 1 shot doubled the group to 11.5" . density is nearly the same as rl 16 . This was a 6.5 x 47 with 140 hyb.

Shot some.223 tests today and there’s definitely some accuracy potential in it. Several 4+1 groups at 100y where only 1/5 wasn’t touching. This is varying amount of jam, I’m going to continue to test OALs.

Just curious if you were running the low node with RL16, when comparing it to RL15.5?
Based on the pressure tests I ran with a 300 Saum imp, 185 juggernaut (same components for all powders tested), I started out about 2% higher than intended and ended up pulling half the bullets since I knew that I was close to brass yield.
I think it’s possible to run within 1/2%, 2tenths for the 6.5X47 or 1/2%, 3tenths for the 300 Saum imp, at the low node, based on my pressure curves but I’m fairly certain that I’d be way over pressure if doing so at the high node.
Comparing the velocities, I think starting a particular cartridge at about 5% lower with RL15.5 is a good place, if your currently running RL16 or H4350.
I posted my results in a different thread but wanted attach the pressure test here also to give people a safe starting point.

I traded my single pound 0f R-15.5 to Gary Smith to test on his
new Dasher barrel, He shoots Ridgway VBR. He sent me a pic
just a few weeks back of a 500 yard break in test.

Sir, can you give us a reason for your recent 30% increase in powder prices across the board on your powders?

because 'the customers were willing to pay it in the last few years, and thanks to the usa fuel prices are up which means transportation costs are up"
just sayin'
and i just looked at bruno..i did not see a 30% increase
