Test indicator help

I'm seeking a test indicator that measures .0001 that has a 2" stem, what do you guys recommend? I'm not seeking a indicator with a short stem and add a 2" to it.

Call long island indicator and get an interapid. Not sure with a 2" stem youre gonna get .0001 but i know you can get .0005 and if you get a big enuf face you can see .0001. Theyre the ones that can set it up for you thats who i deal with.

Thanks Dusty

I think their website goes thru all the options- at least it did a few years ago when my last one broke. They fixed mine and i got another new one. The stems are longer than 2" and one is ruby tipped and one is carbide. But they are very friendly and go over the top to help

I have an Interapid 312B-15 (2.75" contact point) that nominally reads .0005", but it's more than precise enough to indicate .0001". The face is big enough to read that too, assuming you can mentally read .0001" in whitespace, between the hash marks. I can certainly read .0000" TIR on it... :-)

Interapid does not make a long stem indicator that resolves to .0001, just .0005. You can actually put a long stem on a .0001 indicator, but will not read to .0001 because of the added stem length. Its not recommended to do so, but I have done it and works fine. I found a .0001" Interapid on craigslist for $80 and put a long stem on it and use it to dial in barrels. Works perfectly.

If you buy new, sign up for enco email list and wait for a 20% off and free shipping coupon and get one. Very good deal...

Browne and Sharpe offered a Bestest that was .00005 resolution. They have limited range of travel and are fussy to set on a standard magnetic base. I have used them but never bought one as the .0005 interapid could see a .0001 movement with magnification.

If you want to check out a neat indicator look up "Mikrokator" on the google machine. I used ones that read to .00001" (that is half the wavelength of visible light). I did get to see a sample that could read to .0000025" (hydraulically dampened).

That would be fun to just to watch things grow and shrink with temperature.

Like everyone has said the Interapid .0005" long reach works great and easily resolves .0001". I'd be lost without mine.
If you catch them on sale at MSC the discount is considerable. And sign up for email discounts, sometimes you can stack the discounts.

Thats a fine one if youre checking after the chamber is there

The Mit 513-504 works great for some chambers but doesn't quite have the reach of the Interapid 312B-15 2.75" long stem indicator. I believe the Mit is ~ 2.375" or thereabout. I use the Mit on shorter chambers like a BR or PPC and the Interapid for anything longer. The Mit body is also too large of a dia to fit into a chamber smaller than a PPC so it's a no go on small bolt face cartridges.

Edit: The actual of the MIt 513-504 reach is ~ 1.925".

It also wont help you dial in the lands before you chamber. The only thing you can use it for is checking your work after its all done

The bodies are small enough (.375" OD) that after you drill/pre-bore you can reach in and dial in the throat for a BR or PPC size case. The reach is actually just short of 2" (~1.925").

Jeez... gonna pick on me. Drill, dial, bore, chamber and I can get more detailed but we both know how to do it so I think it's unnecessary to nitpick. All I was pointing out was the Mit is a nice indicator for some smaller chambers. I prefer it over the Interapid if I can use it.
