Teslong borescope "hacks"

Hi

I'm pondering on buying a Teslong, and my local supplier has 3 versions. Cheapest version needs a PC or Android Tablet, next up is a "WiFi" version and lastly a version that comes with its own IPS screen.

I'm wondering if there are some known aftermarket screens/devices that will work just as well as the "Screen included" version so I can save a few bars of gold by just getting the basic version?

I have the flexible shaft with the small screen from Teslong, much easier to use vs the laptop/tablet. Just turn it on, use it, and turn it off. No apps to find that work for your particular laptop/tablet, no wifi needed, etc. The screen is about the size of a iphone 6, works well for me. JMO

Sorta depends on what you have now.
If you have a tablet or phone download the app and buy the cheaper version.
No tablet or phone the screen included makes sense.
Either way you will be spending money to "view" the barrel.

I used a tablet and prefer it for the size and definition. It is a great tool.

Thanks all - it looks like I'll have to fork out a bit more for the WiFi model, since that one will give me the most options in the long run ( couldn't believe that the "top" model did not also just include the WiFi option...)

I had the flexible version that I used with my laptop. It broke inside from rolling it up to store it. I now have the rigid version with its own screen.

I’ve had a couple of Lyman’s, they worked kind of, just ok. Focus was fixed and screen and cords were a PITA.

I bought the Teslong with the WiFi hub. It works great, took a little testing for picking the correct lens for setting the focus. After that, select it’s WiFi network in settings and fire up the app, works on my iPhone or iPad. Clear and sharp, stills or video are saved right to your device. For $100 or so, it’s a good buy and will let you know that your barrel was never really clean.

Attached is one of the first photos I did of my Dasher Brux throat at 1350 rounds. I've gotten better with the focus and image size.

I'm using the rigid model with a usb cable. Very easy to plug it into my phone.
Personally, I prefer this vs having an attached screen - I'm imaging that an attached screen would provide an opportunity to break.

I have flexible, long and short rigid and WiFi. All work great with Chrome, Android and Windows. I have an old 17" XP Windows laptop permanently on a shelf over my cleaning bench for ease of viewing. The flexible version earned its keep by keeping me from buying an otherwise very nice Remington .223 when it revealed that the bore was toast from poor care using my Android phone at the gun shop.

If I had the option (I bought mine early) this is my concern. Like the VCR/TV combos. More to break, or go old (batteries, then try finding a replacement 10-20 years from now) deadlining the whole thing. I find it trivially easy to use with a cable to a laptop. The video viewer built into the computer works fine, so not even a need for apps, etc.

But... there's a reason they exist. If you are light on computers/phones/tablets (I am NOT) or if you want to use it simply constantly, then an all-in-one may work better.

The viewing screen and flexible/stiff cable connect using a USB type connection. Easily removed and stored away, or be like me, just leave laying on the work bench, and have to dig it out from other stuff when I use it.

If you already own a laptop or have a desktop machine close to where you'd be working, you're already set. Otherwise, purchase an older model tablet. Or use a phone, take snapshots and enlarge the images you need to view on-screen.

I have two borescopes which predate the Teslong by a few years.
I also have a bunch of old laptops dating back to Win XP.
The only one I ever had trouble getting to work with it was a HP Windows 7 machine.

Also have a Samsung tablet and samsung phone. With the adapter plug, both work natively with either borescope.

I don’t mean to hijack a thread but given this is a thread about image quailing and view-ability of results and there are a lot of Teslong users here so perhaps you can help. Is there a thread or one place with a lot of photos of different bore conditions? Examples of things like throat erosion, different fouling, putting etc.?

Do a search on this forum for "Teslong". Many threads and tons of pictures. More information than you probably want! All by actual users.

I purchased the Bluetooth one which worked great, but I prefered the second one I bought for a little more. Came with a 4” high Rez screen attached. No apps, iPads, etc. just turn on. I keep the whole setup in the case it came in, in my cleaning tool box. It came with the flexible camera Love it.
