Ten Days Camping ---

No internet - no phone - no computer - no power - no mail

Me and my most recent chick, the one I've been hanging with for the last 25 years, just celebrated our anniversary by "dropping out" for a week that turned into ten days.

Our favorite spot for the last few years, has been a little lake that is so out of the way that most folks just don't go there. It's full of bass, crappy, perch, sun fish, cat fish, chub , and supposedly some trout(no proof). Camp sites exist, but are pretty primitive. There is no water, no garbage, or other amenities.

The only shooting I did was meat bees with the Red Ryder. Bait was a filleted crappy carcass - range about eight feet - or less.

We're home now, and I don't know how I feel about that. jd

JD, very glad to see you got out of town for a spell in the wild. Any time out there is time well spent. Happy to hear you got some 'huntin' in too. ;)

The large Immigrant fire near Crater Lake is pushing smoke up our way so bad we cancelled a week long camp trip to one of our favorite lakes here yesterday. The AQI was almost 200, so we bailed and are now "uncamping" our trailer (dangit!). Glad the smoke did not affect your outing, seems it's blowing north and northeast and not into your area.

Seems if it's not lightening strikes starting these wild fires, it's bums out there with unattended cooking fires setting our forests on fire. :(

Speaking of 'meat bees', this time of year, the hornets are starting to get aggresive. My two hornet traps out back now have dead ones stacked in each trap about 4" deep. Nasty little bastards! :o

Had a 76 Ford Tall Boy with an over cab sleeper. Lots of good times.
One event was heading out of West Virginia with the ATV's. Got caught
in a storm and the wind put us up on two wheels. Got a little white
knuckled after that coming into the switch backs. But it sure beats a
tent for a good nights sleep.

Yeah back to the basics really is nice, at least while the weather cooperates. I still love simple truck camping with/without a tent but I have to say my bones and joints like more comfort these days.

Looks like a nice setup there and a wonderful location. Don't recognize that lake, but there's still a few drive to ones in Oregon I haven't been to. Assuming it's in Oregon of course. There's one over to the east of you I keep meaning to get to but I'm pretty sure that's not this lake and it's high enough I wouldn't expect any warm water fish. Glad you had a nice time, condolences on the return to power, phones and everything that comes with those.

Shooting those "yaller jackets" was pretty good sport for a hot day in the shade. I never did stop being a ten year old kid in a lot of ways, and the older I get, the more I find myself liking those things.

I married the right girl, who is a self proclaimed weirdo, and has to be about the only one who will join me in some of the stuff I find fun.

Our 25 years together (so far) has been filled with many exciting, AND low key times in the wild country. I seriously doubt that there are any other men or women on this earth who would put up with either one of us. jd

Wow OLD SCHOOL camping. A early 1970’s Ford pickup with an Alaska style camper. LOVE IT. :)

It’s GREAT you got a chance to unwind and enjoy your self and nature.

Hal

PS. I’m sure some people would go into DT’s if they had to give up their cell phone for 10 DAYS. :).

Disconnecting from our connected world for a reset is a great idea! I miss my grandfather’s remote fishing camp on Lake Temagami…

That old truck is actually a '68', and the camper has never been off of it. They were new together.
By today's standards it's pretty primitive. It's kinda funny - most of the folks I know who have gotten the big fancy campers or trailers, pretty much quit camping. And we don't usually see those folks at the places we like to go.

We're kinda at a crossroads -- that old camper is getting pretty tired, but then so are we. ;) I don't really feel like dropping half of my savings on a new rig. If we can manage to run outta time before this one does, I'll be happy. jd

JD a camper that cool needs a rebuild! If I had to remove the skin or most of it to fix it and replace the paneling inside it would be well worth for a camper that nice. Don't allow time to run out on you or the camper. I think the retro camper are supper neat, my wife is looking for a spam can type camper, but she wants one so light she can pull it with her Subaru, and it is rated at 2000lbs. I keep telling her to take over my Nisan Frontier.
