As a matter of fact, I (and all) suppressor manufacturers advise against using anything other than the direct threads or the appropriate adaptor.

OMG , No !
Teflon is meant to seal gaps on tapered threads.

I'm not sure there is enough clearance between the threads for teflon tape to fit in there . if there is teflon tape would act as a lubricant to keep the threads from galling . I use anti seize on the threads of my brakes .

High temp anti-seize only. How sloppy would those threads be to have to use Teflon tape! I know my barrels and suppressors do not have the clearance to have teflon tape in there.

A piece of metal with a hole down through the middle, isn't always a pipe. Save the tape for your next plumbing project.

I have seen thread tape on barrel tenon threads....

I guess that's where the term gun plumbers comes from.

I run nearly class three threads for supressor and barrel fitting. There snug going on with virtually no wiggling, looser threads would be fine if it was going to a perfect shoulder or conical mating surface. But Teflon tape Max working temp is 500 degrees, I have had supressors glowing hot. Teflon tape isn't going to be there after that.

You talked to the "idiot". Every place has one. I went to my LGS and asked the "idiot" behind the counter if he had any 5 round M1A magazines. He said "They don't make them. Only ten round and I have them." I found a 5 round on the net, 5minutes after getting home.

I use copper, spark plug, anti-seize on all my suppressor threads. My SIL runs a car dealership, and got me a box of these little one-shot tubes of it (a lifetime supply). I only use a dab enough to fill the threads on one side. It's actually kind of gritty. The copper flakes in it seem to act sort of like Teflon tape in that they seem to mash into the threads and keep the cans from coming loose. I can't tell you technically why it works, but I've been using it for years and have never had one seize on the barrel, or come loose during firing. I do screw on the direct thread cans very "hand tight". Veins don't pop out on my forehead or anything, but I'm not shy about it either.

I would think the Teflon tape would surely burn, and it may either seize the can onto the barrel or allow it to come loose. Before I started using the spark plug, anti-seize I did paste a can onto a .308, and had to use a strap wrench to unstick it. It didn't damage anything, but it certainly could have and I was concerned.

I would not use anything if the fit is proper..Some just require a dab of anti-seize & they stay put just fine..others need a blot of blue loctite..The ones that shoot loose, yes, put some teflon tape on those threads..mike in Ct

I was talking with Beast Master about this subject. Nothing should be used including the Break washer that comes on a lot of rifles. The runout on a suppressor has a very tight tolerance, generally .010" or less. Anything added can cause misalignment and an internal strike which will damage the suppressor.

I use Birchwood Casey Choke Tube Lube, which is just high temp anti seize.
