Remage barrel install using teflon tape

Thanks to all others who have posted comments - very interesting and informative. I've decided how to proceed with my first remage project.
Do your homework before you buy a barrel.

If the vendor can't/won't supply a copy of the reamer print used for your barrel...keep shopping. If the vendor is doing the chambering themselves (not all do), they should be willing to also provide a few images of the throat and rifling of your barrel to show alignment. If they won't...keep shopping.

Good shootin' and enjoy the project! :) -Al

Hey, SecondsCount - I'm the OP of this thread and I would like to know about your makeshift tool for torquing remage locknut and how it works, etc. Just decide if you want to publicize your technique and dodge possible flak from forum readers. If not, send me a PM. I promise not to publicize it. Oh, and thanks for the reference to a 'sharpie line' - that will work for me!!

Get the remage nut with the wrench flats.

I’m thinking The threads on a Remage don’t ever gaul. It’s the nut that interfaces with the action face and “lines” everything up. I’m sure there are some more thinking guys on this but in my thinking this is what happens.

It's 'gall' and if there's too much interference it can happen on any threads.

This is why proper threading is important.

I'm thinking that if torquing a Remage is recommended, that different folks will suggest a plethora of different numbers.

I've only done one, and the threads were a work of art, and fitted very nicely. I'd never consider using any teflon tape, and simply went with rem-oil. I snuck up on my head-space - tightening and loosening a few times to see where the nut was gonna end up. When I determined the happy spot, I stopped at "hand tight", and then gave my nut wrench "two smacks" with a wooden hammer handle. Then put pin-punch witness marks on the barrel, nut, and receiver.

So, my torque recommendation is "two smacks", and I am the worlds most qualified expert of my own opinion. jd
