IMHO not enough power in todays target world....look for 40 or moreYesterday by chance, I just went to ebay and typed in Burris 8-32x44. To my surprise 3 were
up for sale for $499 or Offer. One was described as a "circle plex" which told me the seller wasn't familiar with the scope. That is called a "peep plex" with medium fine crosshairs and a very small "peep circle" in the middle,
I know because I have 3 of them and they are Great in my estimation., plus the seller
offers returns and all Burris scopes have a lifetime warranty if nothing has changed.
I bought my first one from a guy that was retiring from competition shooting at the time and said it was "The Best Target Scope" he had ever owned.
No guarantees from me other than what I've stated but I'm thinking somebody is going
to get a good scope for a bargain.
One really nice thing is that you can see the target and center it without blocking it out
at all.
It worked well for me out to 600 yds.IMHO not enough power in todays target world....look for 40 or more
i started with a low power variable with a booster that got me to about 32x. having been there done that i no longer recommend it.It worked well for me out to 600 yds.
I see too many variables with your explanation to blame it solely on too low magnificationi started with a low power variable with a booster that got me to about 32x. having been there done that i no longer recommend it.
I did end up doing a scope swap between the 2 rifles and since doing so my scores for the past 3 weeks have jumped dramatically. On avg. right now of 55 points per week.No real difference between the Arken and either the Athlons I already have.
From looking around I have also seen the Athlon Argos BTR 10-40 SFP. I like what I see in that reticle but not so excited about some of the reviews.
At this point I am tempted to take the Argos 8-34X40 off my other rifle and putting it on the one I will be shooting.
Even though the Helos is a bit more expensive than the Argos, it may not have been the upgrade you intended due to the reduced top end magnification (24X versus 34X). Your description of the targets in your matches suggests to me that assuming comparable glass quality, higher magnification might be of benefit to you for shooting tighter groups. The results of your scope swap test are consistent with this notion. Maybe 24X just isn't sufficient mag for your eyes to shoot as tight as you can with scope that has a little higher magnification.I did end up doing a scope swap between the 2 rifles and since doing so my scores for the past 3 weeks have jumped dramatically. My personal experience has been the complete opposite. Competing in a local range league using this Argos scope just last week I finished 5th out of 17 and many of these shooters are using optics much more aligned to benchrest shooting than this Athlon is . I also am not on the same level as these guys in experience or equipment. The Argos was one of the worst scopes I've owned. For targets the Weaver T36 has been the best for the money for the distances mentioned.
Sorry but not following what you refer to as far as matches. Or how that relates to what I am doing. Care to clarify?@KMW 1954 I participate in such local matches at 200m and 300m on a regular basis. They are not that easy because usually you are not allowed to use rear bag and 10-ring is about 0.5 MOA.
