Target Group measuring?

Which app is the best for measuring target group size,
max/min spread, group size etc.?

Are there more than one, and which will work of a I-Pad?

Tia,
Don

Yeah, I'm a big fan of On Target. You can use it by taking snapshots with your phone or other camera, but it's best if you have a scanner.

Never needs batteries......

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

STILL no cell service most of my area here in MT. Would be kind of fun to play with these nifty ballistics/shooter programs.

Why I still use a caliper.

What? You don't need a telephone to use On Target. In a nutshell, you scan your target (or photograph it with a camera), open the resulting image in the On Target program (yeah, you gotta have a computer, but that hasn't been much of a problem for at least 25 years), mark the bullet holes, and study/store/sort the calculated data. It's really the best way to not only measure your group size, but also things like mean radius, which many think is more valuable than group size.

I thought it was an APP like some of the ballistic apps I see guys using.

I DO have a Computer...so I need to look into that...thanks.

Good thought....but it ain't long enough.
That's what she said!:D

Are you measuring for 1000 yard groups?

Joe Salt

Yep, I've heard it all my life, same like; 'short but not too big around.' Sometimes 1000 yard groups, sometimes they just look like they oughta be........... A 30 foot Stanley steel tape works purdy good if you've got somebody you can trust to hold the other end.

..........We'll see where this goes.

You owe it to yourself. It really is a good program.

And you can export the measured data to an Excel spread sheet, add things like MV and SD if you desire and you'll have a searchable record which is WAY better than a note book. I also input bullet brand/type/weight, powder type, and a note about my personal ammo recipe code number.

In a few seconds I can tell you the average Mean Radius of my 69gr bullets using IMR 8208 XBR when compared with 68gr bullets. Try that with a notebook. Or, I can tell you how many rounds have gone down the barrel with a MV above 2915 fps, if there is any reason to ever do that.

Thanks Guys,
The caliper ain't big enough for me, ;)

Per the info on the OEM site,
this app/program will not work on my Ipad, :(
have a phone, but don't know what OS is installed on it.

Any other suggestions?

Tia,
Don

I don't know about an iPad, but it runs on Mac laptops just fine. All you need is some form of PC simulator software. It may actually already have one installed. If not, there are many Mac PC simulators available as freeware.

Yes, buy a computer. They're all the rage.

Thanks Mozella, ;)
I have 2, and neither is capable to take photo's, and I don't think I can get a power cord long enough to reach the range, which is 10+ miles away.
Have to find another way, as I am dumber than a box of rocks,
when it comes to the puter stuff. :(

Perhaps I should have made it more clear. You don't need a computer with a camera, but since On Target is a computer program, you do need a computer to take advantage of the software.

Use a digital camera or a smart phone and photograph your targets at the range. Or, better yet, bring them home and put them on a scanner for even more accurate measuring.

Take the resulting digital file and copy it to your computer hard drive. Then start On Target, open the file containing your target. Start measuring. If you are using a camera rather than a scanner, you'll have to tell On Target the scale of your photo. This is best done if you have a known distance in the photo, like a 6" circle or a 1" grid or something similar.
