Taking reloads to range need target suggestion

I will be shooting at 100yrds. I have looked at square, round, diamond and just about any combination of these and do not know which way to go and how to affectively use them to help ensure consistent point of aim.

Any suggestions on what type of target and how to properly use it, I know the crosshairs are to cover what I intend to shoot but am looking for a more technical method with a certain style of target.

For instance I have heard some say use a circle and quarter it up, some say use a diamond and use the 4 points to align your crosshairs etc…

Let me have it

Thanks

BTW: I have a computer at work and a printer with some 11x17 sheets of paper waiting on me to print myself up some targets.

This is the target I use at 100 yards:

Just be careful about using company equipment and supplies printing targets. If you get caught it will be very expensive targets!!

If you have a small dot in your scope, you want a target with a center ring slightly larger at 100 yards. Square targets and other similar designs are better for crosswires.

A few ideas...

The top three are good ways for a consistent aiming point while developing loads. The point of impact is in the circle or square. The advantage using this method..you don't shoot out your aiming point. Once you have it working, you can move the POI anyplace you like.

The bottom set are some ways to zero with a consistent aiming point. The second method with a grid allow you to hold on center with the POI X inches high. If you use a target with a grid you can adjust the POI without leaving the bench to measure.

DMickey, not to much to worry when you work for a public institution with a public accessible library that allows the public it's use. I simply either go in while I am not on the clock or while on lunch break and I am simply Joe Public. Thanks for the heads up though many never consider these types of consequences.

BillPa, thank you, exactly what I was looking for. Your reply is exactly what I am looking for. Ways to use the target and cross hairs to remove as much inconsistancy as possible.

Thank You
BB

This target works very well for a lot of guys for 100 and 200. You can line up the corners of the diamond for excellent precision.

Also the orange stick-on dots with small diamonds in the center make very precise aiming points.

James Phillips also has a nice precision target:

I like round for dots and diamonds like the moderator posted for a fine cross. You can find many printable targets online. Just google it and you will find hundreds. If your scope is a dot try to find a target with a circle with an open center, not black. A smaller circle is better than a large one. As far as the diamond type I would suggest 1" or smaller. Good luck, Peter.
