Taking off an original barrel?

I bought a Remington 700 today in 220 Swift from a friend!!
However I already own a Rem 220 Swift, and would like to use this one for it's action (Maybe)!

Anyway, I would like to remove the barrel.
I don't own a barrel wrench! Is there any cheap way to remove the barrel with out damaging the receiver or barrel?

No.

You could easily mess up a barrel vice and wrench doing it too... for some reason remington torques their barrels on stupid rediculously tight.... if you have the right tools to do it you can... best to have a smith do it though if you dont... cheaper too..

If you have a lathe , remove a few thous just infront of rec lug then use a thicker aftermarket lug . Once you remove the pressure , the barrel will turn off easily.

Much easier to get tension on with the wrench, then whack the right side of the recoil lug with a brass hammer, or brass drift and a two pounder. Never fails me, and you dont have to use those #$@Â¥ thick lugs. Screws right back on.

Remington factory barrels have loctite on the threads. Some guys say to soak the action in transmission fluid for a couple days, I use a heat gun and warm it up till I see the loctite turning white in the scope base screw hole, then it usually comes off with out too much trouble. But I use a barrel vise and an action wrench.

I would check the length of the chamber from the datum/shoulder to the bolt face before removing the barrel. I would check case head protrusion from the barrel after removing the barrel.

I know, no one else does that.

Loctite? Source of that info?

Cheap way also, buy an action wrench (to use in the future), lock it on the action...put pipe wrench on barrel, unscrew. I prefer a 24' pipe wrench, makes a snap of it, but barrel is fugly when done. No help to you I know.
