This walnut stock got the ebony treatment. Sanded to 180 so far... Plenty of work left.

Sanded up through 400 grit and put on the first coat of oil to start sealing it. Ill sand in coats of oil through 1000 grit to completely fill the grain.

This one is an M40 inspired design. Not 100% period or clone correct, but gets close...

Transfer markings to find the high spots. File and sand those down until the crescent plate makes complete contact.

Installed the Wichita sling swivels

Contoured the forend and cleaned up the barrel channel

Inlett the bottom metal and checked final fit for everything.

Sanded and added the oil

Mostly natural, but with some medium brown to give it an aged, vintage look.

It impossible for me to say "beautiful rifle" if the stock is plastic, aluminum or composite stuff. Real rifles have wood stocks. I know the fake stuff works, that is well beyond a doubt, but to win a match with a wood stocked rifle gives you real bragging rites. In my many years of shooting I have only had one rifle with a synthetic stock. I gotta take that back, my Uncle Sam gave me an M-14 with I believe it was a fiber glass stock, that was quite a while ago. I've finished a few stocks over the years, I've used 'True Oil' and always applied many thin coats, hand rubbed. They turned out well and held up OK. The stocks in the previous posts are certainly beautiful, I wish I had that ability. I'd bet a dollar to a dog turd that they also shoot.
