Tack Driver IV

I Don’t know @jackieschmidt. It’s more than just the voice. You guys look at a minimum related. You sure you didn’t spend a little time in Hollywood?
This mornings trivia is the actor that plays the old Tennessee gunsmith is Levon Helm....the lead singer for "The Band".
Now, back to the regular scheduled programming.

A last minute check before packing. It’s a cold damp morning at 45 degrees with rain. I stuck the target in a freezer bag to keep it from turning into mush. Wind 15 mph and the rain is blowing in on the gun.
It’s a big swing in weather and I wanted to see if the gun would still hold together.

6BRA shooting with 103 gr Hammers.
3 shots at 100. That should work.

Its funny... People LOVE the IDEA of a Taylor Swift. I ask people "name one hit song... off the top of your head..." They can't because they are all so forgettable and random that nothing sticks. I mean, I know she has had hit songs (in an industry that now "invents" hit songs because the industry is wholly corporate now, and NOT made up of 1000s of independently owned radio stations... when the "charts" meant something). Back in the day, you had to SELL RECORDS to get a HIT SONG. Now? There are no records. Stats are from "online" resources. Privately owned resources I might add... I ask, how do you get a hit now? They give away the music on Pandora and Amazon... how do you determine "hit songs"?

The industry can now literally ASSIGN hit stats to an artist, because it is PRODUCT, not art. The people are told what is a "hit", the people do not DECIDE what is a hit.

It is very obvious to me that Taylor Swift is an invention. I have heard examples of her music. It is obvious that they are assigning writing credit to her for songs she did not write... because it is part of her "true artist" marketing. Fake... Of course, the music biz is fake anyway...

Never had much use for the Swifty.

Every generation has it’s own music genre, and invariably the previous generation will think it really sucks.

I started playing guitar in junior high. And have been involved with some type of music my entire life.

my parents hated it.

Corruption has always been rampant in the professional music industry. One of the more “infamous” examples of outright fraud goes back to the Phil Spector days. Spector was one of the greatest producers of popular music through the ‘60’s with his “wall of sound”” concept.
He read a composition by one Gene Pitney titled “He’s a Rebel”.
Spector knew a hit when he heard it. He knew he had to get the song recorded before Pitney could get a better bidder.
His premier girl group that week was The Crystals, with lead singer La La Brooks building a fan base. But the Crystals were on the road and could not get into the studio In time.

So Spector grabbed an unknown group of backup singers called The Blossoms with Darlene Love as lead singer and recorded the song, and released it. But, he released it under The Crystals name.

The song became an iconic hit. But people noticed that when The Crystals performed the song live, something wasn’t right. LaLa Brooks sounded nothing like Darlene Love, who did the actual lead vocal on the hit record.

It took years for Darlene Love to finally get credit, and money, for her efforts.

by the way. That piano you hear banging away in this version was non other than Floyd Cramer, part of Phil Spectors recording studio regulars, named The Wrecking Crew.

Absolutely Jackie, the music industry has always been as corrupt as any other industry out there. Went to Nashville back years ago and spent about a week to do some studio recording with one of our groups. We found out quickly the 'hot shots" on every corner were major rip-offs. And honestly we had much better finished product from our local recording guys at home.

There's no doubt my parents knew young Alan had gone around the bend when they heard what I was listening to. Frank Zappa, Led Zepplin, Ozzy, etc. I hated the Beatles (still do). The 'Stones were more my style....grittier and didn't give a rats azz what anybody thought.

It's a good thing I didn't have any guitar talent or my life would likely have ended up quite differently....a basement apartment writing songs at 3 A.M. under a 40 watt bulb.

I remember my Dad coming into my room when this was on and just shakin' his head.....
