Tac powder for .223 Rem- good grouper??

Hey,

I was curious if anybody has tried to work up a sub-moa load with 75 or heavier grain bullets?? I would like to try to work up a 1000yd. load with it since it acheives higher velocities, but wanted to see if anyone has gone before me first...

Thanks,
Tres

I have had great success with Tac. Shooting it with 68, 69 & 75 grainers. I have found Varget to be faster with the 75's though. Excellent powder choose.

TAC powder works "very well" with the heavier bullets in 223 Rem. 5.56mm LR aka MK 262,Mod 0 and Mod 1) is manufactured by Black Hills. From memory, MK 262 Mod 1 has a muzzle velocity of approx 2820fps from a 20 inch barrel. SF has used this ammunition with great success. Not sure if the data is still available but, it was/is loaded with a little know powder, C1700. C1700 is a canister grade powder from Western powder company. Probably better known is its commercial equivalent "Ramshot TAC." And now you know the rest of the story!

23.0 grains is a good starting point with the 77's. Work up from there watching velocity and pressure.

Thanks fellas.

Are you guys saying Varegt gives higher MV with 75 & 77 bullets over Tac IN A 20" BARREL?

Thanks again!

Tres

Winchester Western C1700 loaded with the 77gr. SBTHP shooting out of a barrel of 1/5 twist is the most accurate you can get with the .223 round.

I have good luck with a 1-7" twist with 77's-90's and Varget.

Where do you get a 1-5" twist?

I, too am using TAC. Out of my 24" 7twist hart long range AR-15, 23.6 grains of TAC, virgin winchester brass, CCI BR-4s, sierra 77 grainers seated to 2.260. avg velocity is 2846 fps through chrony. very accurate. 24.0 grains of TAC is listed as max load in sierra manual for ar-15 with 77 grainers. Work up to that load. CCI primers can handle the pressures better than the winchester small rifle primers i tried.
