TAC-22 Ammo Review

Norma’s site charged me sales tax. Maybe Palmetto doesn’t?
Unless I missed something everybody charges sales tax. I bought from PSA a lot through the years and as they have gotten bigger, their prices have gone up. I go in their store closest to me and I seldom walk out with anything now. I used to buy some ammo or something just because they used to have some good deals. I have seen them charge way over MSRP on some things that were hard to get lately.

In their defense, they do have some interesting guns they designed and manufacture that are getting good reviews and they seem to stand behind them.

Bottom line is this, and I have searched around a lot - Norma TAC prices are all over the place. I see it for as much as $9.99, and as low as the Norma shop price of $3.48. Sign up for Norma's newsletter and get another 5% off. I see now that Norma has raised the free shipping limit to $149.

CCI SV out shoots Tac 22 in both my Tikka T1X and Ruger 10/22. For me the Tac 22 is good for pistol ammo.
When I posted this the Tac 22 ammo I have is the black box. I'm hoping this red box shoots better in my Tikka T1X as Paul has stated it shoots in his. I'm ok with using it to bang steel out to 325 if it doesn't work on the paper target for me. It's all good. $3.48 a box is definitely a good price in today's economy.

I think there are still a few holding out on charging sales tax, but I won’t mention names.

I went by a couple of Scheels stores while on vacation this summer, IIRC the tac-22 was supposedly on sale for $65 a brick.
Like you, I got some coming Friday from this sale.

I bought a couple of bricks of the same lot# of Norma Match a few months ago, and wasn't impressed with the groups, especially since it cost almost $3/box more than TAC-22, which so far has shot far better groups. All this really means is that ALL 22RF ammo is lot-dependent. IOW, another lot of Norma Match might very well shoot far better than the lot I got. I've seen this with SK & Lapua ammo, where a good lot of SK Rifle Match would shoot far better groups than a mediocre lot of Lapua Center-X. It's nothing new; 22RF ammo has always been lot dependent, and testing lots against each other is the one-and-only way to get ammo that shoots well in your rifle. I'll call Norma about getting lot samples to test before I spend much more money on their ammo - since RWS makes it, I'm sure there's some exceptionally good lots to be had, but it's going to require testing to find them.

SK Standard shoots better than the TAC-22 in most of my rifles.
Still, the TAC-22 surprised me how consistent it was.
I’ve been using Tac-22 (black box) for about a year to practice cheek pressure, breathing, trigger control, and wind doping for my F-Class high power Matches. I shot the 100 yard depicted target yesterday in 70 degree Florida with a swirling wind @ 5 mph guesstimate. Target bull is 1/2 inch pasty, and the target rings are an NRA 300 yd. F-Class replica reduced for 100 yd. use. My average 100 yd groups (10 shots) using Tac-22 over the course of firing about 1000 rounds is 1.1 inches. Sometimes better as depicted, but generally ballpark 1.1 inches. I shoot it in a gen 3 Vudoo, prone, bi-pod, Edgewood rear bag, with an old Tasco variable scope set @24X. My opinion if Tac-22 is that it is a much better than average ammo for everyday shooting. My apologies for being long winded, but I wanted to share some non bench rest thoughts concerning the Norma Tac-22.

Win 1885 built by Miroku imported by Olin. Target at 40 yds. Shot black box TAC-22 from a bench using a front bag.
