T-Rex for 1K Benchrest?

I’m looking into a new front rest for LR shooting. I have a Target Shooting Model 1200 and it’s a great rest but wondering about switching to a good coaxial style rest for faster and smoother adjustments.

In my research so far, it seems the main consensus is the T-Rex from Rodzilla is the best coaxial style rest there is at the moment. I know it’s popular in F-Class but wondering if any of you use it for 1K Benchrest shooting and what are your thoughts on it?

I have a Wheeler LRB stock with rear rudder that I will be using in the rest. Using a Seb bag for the rear.

I noticed there are some different top choices offered for the T-Rex so also wondering which option would be best for benchrest

I figure if I’m going to get serious about 1K BR competition shooting then want to give the rifle it’s best chance at winning. Thanks for any input on the T-Rex

I don't think the 5-axis top is BR legal. I believe you will need a BR legal front bag.

At Deep Creek you will see more Sinclair Competition rest than anything else. I tried a joystick and didn't like it for 1000 yd Br. Sold it and got the Sinclair. There are some joysticks on the line. Its a personal preference. If your gun tracking good you don't have to make much adjustment shooting a string.

I shoot a Farley. A little tweaking and they can be very smooth. My first real rest was a Farley so I am used to them. I had a Sinclair and the positive adjustments are easier for small aiming corrections. The problem with a joy stick is that when that stock is set up right, your corrections will be so small its hard to not overshoot them with a joy stick unless its a very smooth one. For F Class big hold offs are common and a joy stick from the prone is mandatory. From the bench with a stock that tracks you do not need one. So you have to buy both and sell the one you like less ;)

What is the difference between F-Open and BR besides one shooting prone and the other from a bench? I know that F-class is score only but the rifles and stocks are very similar and need to track with a rear bag. I know the wind can be just as nasty at a 1K BR match as it can anything else as well.

I guess I would have to shoot both to understand better.

I saw your groups at Deep Creek and with a coax rest as part of your setup it really got me thinking. Congratulations on some great shooting by the way! Amazing Ag at the shoot :)
I dont remember the first group, if I had to move the rest at all. If it was its was not much and certainly not every shot. The second group I didnt move the rest once. So the type of rest would have made little difference. You have a good stock and will have a nicely timed action so your rifle will track. That rest is very expensive. Not saying its not worth the money but a sinclair or farley is not going to hold you back imo.

Call ME Naive Lol , I thought when I read the post ,someone was actually considering a .577 TRex for BR . I pity the fool . A nice fellow in AZ years back allowed ME to shoot his .577 TRex ,I gave him $5.00 to cover the cost of his shell politely thanked him and cursed him the rest of the day . I Didn't drop his Rifle and he was Very happy about that but MY shoulder was Never the same .

That gun has been dropped more than any i know of

For what its worth I have both the Sinclair Competition and the T-Rex.
I use the T-Rex for F class because
1. It is extremely smooth and stable. Once it is counterbalanced correctly (which is very easy to do) I can even let go of the joystick when I shoot with no problem.
2. My F open gun is long and with the T-Rex reaching the joystick or height adjustment from the prone position is no problem.
3. The swivel top makes set up on the line simple. I have both the 5 axis top and the sandbag top, but I prefer the 5 axis top which is not legal for benchrest.

That being said I also shoot short range benchrest (group) where I use the Sinclair because it is rock solid and precise and I have no trouble reaching the controls with the shorter gun. However I am about to get into short range benchrest for score where more gun aiming is required. This may give an advantage to the T-Res with the sandbag top.

I haven't had a chance to try the 21st Century hybrid rest but as far as other coaxial rests go the T-Rex is about as good as it gets. I'll probably offend a lot of SEB users saying that but its just my opinion.

The one thing you will need to check on is if you have a 4in wide fore end on your long range gun I do not know if there is a 4in wide front bag available for the T-Rex sandbag top.

Thanks for the input. I read a lot about this rest with everything I could find on the internet before posting this thread and found that pretty much everyone who has used the T-Rex, Seb Neo, and Seb Max stated that the T-Rex is a superior machine. So I don’t think you’ll be offending anyone who has experience with those rests because you are in line with what everyone else seems to think ;)

The Wheeler LRB stock does have a 4” forend and according to the Rodzilla website the T-Rex IBS top will accommodate 4” bags

I have owned and or run the Sebs and Farley rests but haven’t found them to be nearly as smooth as my Lenzi joystick rest. They are not cheap but I would not hesitate to buy another if I was in need of a rest.

You won’t go wrong with a Lenzi LR rear bag either.

Dave.

My asperations have me looking over the T-Rex with standard bag
top. but in the grand scheme of things, the Lenzi is only $100 bucks
more.

The 21st century would be first choice for long range. No comparison. I have a lenzi. Have had SEB, Farley, Sinclair, RFD, even a bald eagle. The 21st for long range is awesome.

Never owned a T REX so no thoughts.
