T/C Ventura predator rifles

They feel nice and they point good. I bought one 22-250 a year ago and it would not feed. Round would come out of mag and nose down into the barrel shank and jam. I messed with it and tried different ammo. Called TC and they said to send the the mag to them if I thought that was the problem or the whole rifle if I didn't think the mag was problem. The 3 lug bolt design looked like the problem to me so I returned the rifle and bought a Tikka instead. I never did fire the TC. It seemed to be a nice stick, but if it won't feed, it wasn't going to be any good to me.

A buddy has one in .223 and it shoots excellent, 5 shot groups hover around 1/2" and under, occasionally turning in 1/4".

I have been impressed with the Icon Precision hunter in 6.5 creedmoore I own, has shot sub 3" 600 yard 5 shot groups in good conditions quite regularly. The only flaw with this gun was on bolt close the extractor clipped over the rim hard, a polish job on the extractor fixed that. This was done with factory a-max load.

I did shoot an Icon field grade in 243, only tried factory federal premium ammo and it hung around an 1" for 3 shots at 100. Have not tried any other ammo in it yet.

After setting up a few venture rifles for customers I think they may be the "best" mid price/cheap gun out there right now. I would go that route over a factory 700 in a heart beat.

None of the above had feed issues.

I really like the Tikka. It will shoot 1/2 inch with 50 Max load. Super smooth and perfect feeding. Only problem is the 1 in 14 twist instead of the 1 in 12 the TC has. It will not stabilize 53 Max. 6_284 is still a lost cause at this point.

Jim, it is nice to know that others are having good experiences with these rifles. I was pressed for time when I tried them out and just went with the sure thing.

Exactly its that 14" twist in just about all 22-250s out there I don't like. Maybe your gunsmith made some mistake when chambering your 6x284 ? Mine is shooting very well.

I have a brux 14 twist on a 223 and the 50 grain b-tips shoot awsome at 3450 fps, I don't even think of trying anything heavier though.

I was set on the TC and even loaded up some 64 Berger in anticipation for it, since the 53 vmax wasn't available yet. Since I didn't shoot the TC I tried them in the tikka and it shot them very good but I was worried about it getting colder and then not stabilizing so I went back to the 50 vmax. I still think the Venture would be a nice rifle as long as it functions but personally I love the Tikka, just wish it was a faster twist. I am looking forward to making that happen someday.

Tikka has a better trigger and feeds flawlessly. I have one in 243 Lite. After free floating barrel it shoots under 3/4" moa. Handles very well in field and I really like it.

Considering a Tikka Lite in 22 250 in the future.

Get the TC Venture. They are ridiculously accurate with hand loading. You will EASILY get sub MOA with factory ammo and EASILY get sub 1/2 MOA with hand loads. I bought a TC Venture 7mm Rem Mag and a TC Venture .300 Win Mag for hunting a few years back. Tested loads with 168gr Berger bullets in the 7mm and 200 gr Accubonds in the .300 WM. Both were absolutely outstanding.

The 7mm RM was completely factory except for a that I had a Harrel's break put on the barrel to tame recoil for long range hunting. Put the Harrel's break on the 7mm before the gun ever fired a round in my hands so it wasn't REALLY "right out of the box". The .300 WM was completely factory. I didn't even bed the actions on either of the guns!!! Adjusted the triggers down as low as they'd go, torqued the action screws to ensure proper tightness, mounted a 6-24X scope to "aim small" at 100 yards, cleaned the factory grime out of the barrels, did a quick 10 shot "shoot once then clean" barrel break in on both, then commenced testing.
I tested the 7mm first and thought maybe I got really lucky with a good gun from the factory. But then I shot the .300 WM and realized that these really are good guns!

The pictures of the targets shown below really speak for themselves : )

PS, both of these rifles feed flawlessly. You can cylcle the whole magazine as fast as humanly possible and they will never jam. LRPV must have gotten the occasional lemon that seems to find it's way into every manufacturer's cherry tree : )

Great stuff ! Thanks for posting those pictures.

No problem, you're welcome Ironworker. I was also very skeptical about the TC Ventures at first, so i bought 2 rifles to rule out luck. They seemed to have all the bells and whistles, and the guarantee to back it up.

Those 2 groups pictured from each rifle are actually 2 of the first, and only, 5 different loads I tested in each rifle.
So I only ran 5 different test loads through each rifle and both rifles gave me 2 outstanding groups. The other 3 groups from each rifle were about 3/4"-1" groups that would have worked fine for a hunting rifle as well. Nothing shot "bad". It only took me one trip to the range and I was done! I kid you not. Can't beat that : )
I can't say that all TC Ventures will do this, but for what I paid for each rifle ($440) it's definitely worth the gamble IMO.

Only thing I don't like about the Venture's is their stocks. kinda slippery while wearing my leather palmed wool gloves in cold weather. The forearm and wrist grips are more for decoration than being a good gripping surface. Other than that, I can't find a thing wrong with them.

Take care and good luck with whichever rifle you choose : )

Well I bought one( 22-250) through Guns america.com...... Some gun shop in PA,waiting for it to arrive some time this week. It will come with some cheap camouflage 3x9x40. scope.............. Little did they know that they sold a T/C Ventura Predator rifle to a Oakland Raiders fan. LOL

Congrats on your purchase. You won't be disappointed with the accuracy. Be sure to post some pics of how well it shoots. I'm sure it'll be a tack driver : )
