My Prairie Dog shoot

Just got back from an awesome prairie dog shoot in Acton MT( Near billings MT) . Out fitters add said "Thousands of Dogs" It was true, showed up on property and dogs were out,but as day warmed up more dogs pop up . From 8:30 till 5:30 constant trigger pulling on 3 rifles. My AR-15 RRA coyote I learned when that rifle gets ultra hot it jams ,( What about our troops armed with those ?) must allow it to cool down.( Hot weather in mid 90s) Brought a T/C Ventura Predator in 22-250 it did very well. Then a semi custom 6-284 30" Brux bbl that rifle was to big 3-4 shot and bbl was screaming hot and loud as a cannon ( Muzzle brake) average shots were 200-350 yards. Could've made twice even thrice those distances but it would've required a dedicated spotter. Also brought a 22 magnum rifle and they( Dogs) were all pretty much out of range for that gun.

Glad you had a good shoot. Sure is tough to shoot the 22-250 and larger cased rounds with the temps in the 90's. Been there too.

Some pics of the event would have been nice if you'd care to post.

How did your partners wild travel arrangements work out?????

Phil. Other than his plane being two hours over due it was fine,no problem with the guns. On the field when we moved around on property we had a ton of stuff had to be laid out and gathered up because only one truck ( mine ). He said "He regretted not driving and will do so next time. Him being there made the event more fun so glad he made it.

Nice to read a good report. Too often people write about problems. You made the effort to show good.

Good.

He is a constant source of entertainment, along with being one of the good guy`s, I`ve always enjoyed his company afield....

Phil.

For the type shooting you were doing, a 221FB w/40 gr or a 20VT w/32's would work well for most shots, and a 20 prac/Tactical/AI for the farthest shots. You would get lots more shooting in between gun changes.

Glad to see a good report for that area. I heard this is a good year for moisture. That usually gives the pups a better chance at survival...until I get there. ;)

I am heading north of Roundup next week after picking up some ol' moonshiner from KY in Billings.
