Ruger American Predator Rifle

^^^^^ Good to know^^^^^^
I believe my jam length was 2.89".
I'm loading to max mag length of 2.83".
I guess it's back to the drawing board for me.

I don't have an unmodified mag here, but it looks like about .265". The portion behind the cartridge case head on these modified mags measures .243". If you measure your mag and do the math you'll have the answer!

Time out, Timeout!!!! I thought you said yours "doesn't have any modifications"????

Just placed call to my G.S...
I've got to modify the magazine after seeing pics. Might as well get it bedded whilst I'm there. Or at least have him teach me how to bed a rifle so as I don't get all that gooey stuff in my action.
Unlike my last attempt!!

One more mod. Velcro for night light switch.
:D:D
Back to the magazine. Did you seperate the 2 halves and wauler out the left side corner to accept longer rounds? We were having difficulty seeing exactly what you'd done from that angle

Yes, split the two halves and machined out the rear groove that the follower sets in. Mine were machined by CNC. I suppose if you are patient and careful it could be done with a Dremel. I wasn't sure how far rearward we would machine it so I filled the voids at the back of the magazine with Devcon. That would not have been necessary. You need to be very careful with the tabs that hold the two halves together as they are brittle and fragile.

I'll give it a shot.
What's the worst that can happen, call Ruger for a new mag?

I'm not sure how well this will show detail, but after breaking tabs on the first mag I split to modify, I built this tool to prevent pushing the locking tabs any further than absolutely necessary. Push comes to shove, super glue is your friend.

What's your coal after mods?
I'm still .063 from the lands. Thinking closer could be better.

2.555" IIRC I'm loading these at .010" off the lands. Hunting loads, although I have no doubt if I jammed them it would shoot as well as a custom :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Careful, you dont want to be Ruffin feathers!!
Mine will be semi custom once I get my bolt back from boltfluter.

This is my absolute favorite rifle in my safe. I've learned alot trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I have heard a lot of good things about the TC. They should be a very good hunting rifle. And if you want to you can build a nice RA these days as there is finally enough after market parts now available.

The RAR is a rifle made just as simple and inexpensive as the other models it competes with. I have had/have seven of them and they will for the most part do moa or better without any mods. As some of the groups shown here they do better than moa out of the box, and just like the other rifles in that class some are going to shoot lights out and some aren't without a little help. The best two i have gotten so far are a .308 predator that on the very first time out put the last three rds into less than an inch, this is from an mtm $30 open rest. The other was a .243 that i kick myself over every time i think about it because i let it get away. No i don't have the target for that one.

The ruger is a inexpensive rifle that shoots good for what you paid for it. You may need to enlarge the pictures to see them best.
