Swedish 6.5x55 in the m96

I have a 100 Hornady 120gn Amax bullets I'ld like to try in my Swedish m96 rifle.

Any recommendations for a accurate load. Ive checked Hodgdon sites for suggestions.

Ive got Varget, H4895, IMR4350, Data86

I had very good results with IMR4350. Loaded to Sierra manuals load and had fun plinking with it. My 86 got dirty as hell with everything I shot through it. Don't know if it was the barrel or the loads.

Try the IMR 4350 first. I use AA4350 in mine but IMR usually is almost the same loads when I have used it in other calibers. With the 29" barrel on the M-96 you can get some serious velocity while staying under the 46000 CUP limit for this small ring action. I get 3000 fps with 120gr ballistic tips and 2800 with 140 gr Sierra and Hornady SPs with MAX loads from the Accurate manual with AA4350. These loads are under 46000 CUP and are VERY accurate. They also SMOKE deer.

Be aware that these rifles have been sighted with what is called a 300 meter battle sighting. That means that you could aim center mass of a standing man and make a center mass hit out to 300 meters. This means that at 100 yards your point of impact will usually be around 6 inches of so high. You can get a replacement Mauser front sight blade that is called a TALL front sight from Midway USA or Brionell's and this will bring your point of impact down. You can find your most accurate load and if you need to move your point of impact up because it is too low you can file the front sight down and bring your point of impact up. GO SLOW WITH THE FILING. I usually leave my point of impact 1/2 inch low at 100 yards and use pieces of duct and masking tape placed under the back sight elevator to adjust my point of impact up and down. I found that the light conditions and weather conditions mess with how you see the sights and how the bullet will fly and you need the ability to slightly adjust your elevation. A single piece of duct tape under the back sight elevator will move your elevation 1/2 inch and a piece of masking tape 1/4 inch at 100 yards. Doing this lets you move your elevation in small precise amounts. Good luck and have fun.
