Swede 6.5x55 in a short action? Tikka m595 project.

I had all the parts laying around and was curious. Common knowledge says no but I thought it was worth a try. I put a new nut barrel on an old action. The 308 magazine accepted a factory PPU round with a little room to spare. The bolt face accepted the factory round, Lapua brass and fed just fine.
I bedded the barreled action in a scruffed up stock and gave the stock a coat of oil to seal the dings. I’m going to put a good scope on it for load work, then put a hunting scope on it. It will make a good truck gun.

would you post a close up of the barrel receiver joint pls

Here ya go. I don’t remember who made the barrel and nut. I bought it from @Thauglor when he was dumping some extra parts. I have a tendency to buy anything Tikka related for projects.

Barrel is x-caliber, I never had a 308 magazine to try it but glad to see it feeds from such magazines

Thanks for that! Do you remember the twist? ;)
I have a 243 barrel as back up in case this didn’t work.
I have wanted to put a 6.5 x 55 R700 barreled action in a certain short action stock I have.
It just seems appropriate —— i have thought i would have to use a long action and modify the stock and not sure i want to do that. I have both short and long actions I could use though. So this is good info in this thread. If i chamber it to a SA and it doesnt work out I could always put it in a LA. I wonder how close those bullets in the mag you show are to touch or being in a little bit? i realize with a truck gun it doesnt matter. it will probably be plenty accurate even if the bullets have a fair amount of jump. have you used the cleaning rod barrel twist calculator?! lol

Hi Kim! I started with the magazine. The factory round fit so I mounted the barrel on the action and it fed just fine so I put it together.
I haven’t checked for the distance to the lands, etc. It’s just a beater. I’ll be happy with 1 inch groups. I had a few hours to kill and put the gun together.

looks like it outta work fine. I may have to go ahead with my project.

Let us know how it shoots. I have a couple of X Caliber Carbon barrels and have not shot them. When is it going to get a fancy stock from the Master.

Well, that was my first thought. Then I looked at all the guns I built with my stocks. All sanded smooth to at least 1000 grit and glossy oil finished. Nice show pieces. I decided I wanted a few guns that I didn’t have to worry about dropping and dinging. I bought this stock and was going to redo it. Looking at all the little dents in it from honest use, I thought I’d roll with it.
