Varminter build questions: Savage PTA or M595?/stocks?

Hello,

New to the forum here, and am impressed with the knowledge shared and courteous manner the members maintain. I'm looking for advice and opinions on a build:

I'm planning on putting together a 243AI varmint rig and was originally thinking about using a Savage target action. I do happen to have a Tikka M595 243WIN in the safe that I could use the action from. This Tikka is in nearly new condition and it might pain me a little to dismantle it. I bought it at a gun show about 4yrs ago and it just isn't being used. I have not found M595 donor rifles up for sale recently.

My lathe doesn't have gearing to make metric threads but from searching on this site I found that the M595 tenon is 1" -16tpi. Is that correct? Do any of you have thoughts on which action would be a better candidate for a long range varmint build? I hear good things about the accuracy potential in both of these. I do like how smooth the bolt cycles on my M595. I think I'd be happy with a single shot configuration although the M595 has the detachable magazine.

I find a variety of after market stocks available, inletted for the Savage but have not found any advertised to be inletted for the Tikka. I like the looks of the Dog Tracker stock shown here:

Thanks, Bill
