Need help with a 6.5x55 Swede Build

I posted this in another section and got no replies, so I thought I'd try it here. Thanks in advance for any replies:

I have been doing some investigating for a possible build. I am looking into a 6.5x55 Swede for 1000 yard F-Class shooting. Is there any modifications that would have to be done to a Remington Long Action with an 06 Bolt Face? Can a magnum Bolt be used? I have read that the 06 bolt will work with Lapua Brass, and was told by others it had to be modified. I would prefer not to buy a bolt.

Thanks
AG

I guess it's all a matter of how the tolerances stack. I shoot with two guys who have Swede's built on 700 long actions. Both use Lapua brass and neither had to modify the bolt on their 700's.

With the standard cartridge base diameter being .473" and the Swede nominally measuring .476" there's usually enough clearance in most M700 bolt faces to allow the Swede to function without any problems.

Of course, YMMV ;)

Billy's got it right.
It's a really a suck it and see thing with the bolt face.
I have been able to use 06 BF with the 6.5x55's I or friends have built or owned. using R700 and Win 70 actions as well as my factory Tikka 595- it will fit 06 brass into it's BF.
I use Lapua brass for mine.

I had to modify the brass itself in order to work in my Remington .473 bolt. If you look at the Lapua brass, at least on the brass I have, the extraction groove is very narrow. Too narrow to fit to the bottom of the Rem bolt and the extractor to pick it up. There is also the little extra rim diameter.

I have a tool for rebating case heads, so I used it on my Swede brass, reduced the rim and enlarged the extraction groove at the same time. Works flawlessly now.

Maybe there is some other brass out there that will work in a Remington bolt, but the Lapua I have won't.
