Swapping barrels on Savage 12 VLP.

i have a VLP in 243 that is a hammer! 100 yards five shot groups are +/- 1/2”, and three shots have been under 1/4”. I like the rifle, thought about getting a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, but hesitate on removing my barrel and screwing up my groups. My first Savage.

Shoot out the 243 and when it’s life is over rebarrel- that’s my thoughts and that’s what I did with my 243, now shoot a fast twist 6 Rem AI

I was thinking that a Creedmoor would probably double his range and cut his groups in half. jd

Thanks for the advice guys. I’ve heard of turning savages into multi caliber rifles due to the ease of swapping barrels.
I’ll stick to the old slogan “ if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!

Pick up another savage action and barrel it up to a different caliber. You can pick up LA .270 & 30-06 Savages cheap. They work good for Creedmoors or any heavy for caliber 6.5 bullets you want to seat out close to the lands!
