SW32 wheel gun Cartridge Type?

Link

I need to know if a 32 sw wheelgun is long or short. I don't think ammo is available , should I look for cheap used dies and components? Gun is Not FS.

If it's not marked S&W Long, it's likely a 32 S&W. About a .3" difference in case length between the two (Long is .920 vs .61 for straight 32S&W)

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out what you have.

FWIW there's a whole bunch of cartridges that match the diameter and rim: 32S&W, 32SWL, 32H&R Magnum, 327 Federal Magnum. You can chamber and fire any of the shorter cartridges in a chamber cut for a longer cartridge. On semi-auto's (yes, they exist) it probably won't cycle, but it won't hurt anything.

Go over to smith-Wessonforum.com
Asking a .32 S&W question there will give you all the info you will ever need.
This is the single most addicting cartridge family ever invented.
I love it cause it is like a reloadable 22lr, 1 pound of Unique yields over 4000 reloads.

I don't know about 32 S&W, but the S&W Long is a stupid accurate cartridge, which is why a lot of Euro target guns are chambered for it. It was sort of marginal at longer distances (50 yds presented challenges maintaining velocity with a wadcutter target bullet), hence the change of some of those guns to .32 Auto. And yeah, powder lasts quite a while when you load less than 2 gns/round (though it can be a problem to measure that...)

One other advantage is that 200 rounds of 32SWL feels like a feather compared to 200 rds of 45ACP.

Don buy a set of good 32 dies, mine are redding and will load every 32 cartridge from 32 short to 327 federal. Not sure cheaper sets will. But like anything, good die sets will return more of your investment when taken care of later, if you decide to part with them.

Buy some 32 S&W Brass, it will shoot in it. I shoot only cast in mine, but I only shoot cast in any revolver, 32 S&W Long thru 475 Linebaugh, and everything in between! Cast is capable of better accuracy, more speed for the same wieght as jackets, at lower pressure, and properly sized and lubed, will season a bore needing little to NO cleaning! Jackets will do nothing as well as cast!

If it is a Long, there won't be a problem knowing once you have a cartridge for it, and if it is the S&W brass will still work. If you get Long brass and it's not,,,,,, well you will have brass that does you no good. Really not a lot of differance in the two handloading, as they are both low pressure cartridges.

You didn’t mention a model#, if it is real early it could be a RF.
S-W 32 H&K CTGE Worcester Mass, is the only info I see. The cylinder measures 1.235'' Long / 3.250'' barrel.
Thanks for the info on this gun guys. Some light pitting, blue is good.
Could someone put a value on this gun, Not a fs add.

Don.

It sounds like you have a H&R break top revolver in S&W .32 caliber. Not the .32 long. Neat little revolver but not a lot of value. $200-$300 in good condition. Keep it and shoot it.
