I see that your from Wyoming. Where is the range? If it’s Laramie, the wind never stops. I would consider a heavy weight rifle with at least a 7mm if it’s always windy. I’ve spent a lot of time hunting and camping in Wy, the winds are tricky just like here in NM.

Don’t blow nothing like Laramie

It’s over by lander. Ain’t like its gusting 35mph. Just ever changing swirling stuff. I was toying with the idea of my 7 saum. Figured a 180 going over 3k might help compensate for my wind skills

I don't know what shooting discipline you're referring to, so I can give you my opinion from F-Open that has a 3" X ring at 600 yards. If there are only 10 shots for record, you won't need 20 shots to get to the X ring. You might shoot 15 shots tops. I have a .300WSM that shoots 200-20Xs and I use it primarily for 500 and 600 yard F-Open. It is super accurate, shoots right with or maybe even a little inside a .284 and is not difficult to control.. After 7+ years in F-Open, I think it is the BEST of the BEST!
Working up a 300 WSM my self. What's your chosen bullet and load if you don't mind?

No cartridge will compensate for wind, but the higher the BC and faster you can push it the better it will do in the wind. My friend that got me addicted to shooting LR says "you only have 2 friends BC and speed."

Sounds like a little research between the 6 Dasher and the .300WSM. Barrel life will probably be close to one another. I spent a couple of months in Laramie last year. Storms and winds popped up quickly. Your winds kinda sounds like my place over northwest of Rawlins.

If money is no object build a dasher! I have a .308 that shoots 3/8moa, it’s not tight to some of these guys of course but I built it economically, remy 700, Heavy varmint barrel 1/12 twist, 26” length, reset into a Promag Archangel stock, with Burris XTR II 4-20x50 glass in Burris rings and a 20 moa Leupold mount. I did this over a couple of years watching for components used or on sale. I have in all about $2000, retail more like $3500 but it’s a heavy beast and ultra accurate for a combination shooting piece that I do hunt with!

Build 2 rifles. A small 6mm with 107-110's for no wind days. and a 300WSM with 190's or 200's for windy days.

That is what I was considering. My 7 saum. Pushing a 180, 184 over 3k. Curious whether it would straighten out some of the curves. Perhaps turn 9’s into 10’s. Still gotta learn to read wind but man is that slow 105 a drifter in the wind.

7 saum will heat up quick. At that (short) range I'd go with 284 win.
