Supreme Court Will Review NY City Gun Rights Case

Has anyone seen this yet? It looks like New York city has banned the transport of handguns unless it is directly to and from shooting ranges, the gun is unloaded, and it is locked in a container. Two lower courts have already ruled that this is not a 2nd Amendment violation, but I imagine that the Supreme Court will have a different opinion.

Can someone tell me how anyone can prove that you were not traveling to a shooting range? How exactly are authorities supposed to enforce this? Also, doesn't this law essentially mean that all accessible handguns are illegal within city limits? How is that not a direct contradiction of 2nd Amendment rights?

Strictest reading of the 2nd says you can own/possess without infringement. The without infringement is the usual argument for pro gun enthusiasts. California just initiated a law concerning purchase of ammo. You need a certificate from the state to buy it there. These are all work arounds and need to be challenged.

Several years ago New York City post a list of all the regestered gun owner on All of Long Island, to try to Embarrass gun owners but all it did was tell the criminals where not to go. In my mind it backfired on the constitutionally ignorant politicians New York City .

For Long Arms, there is no required gun registration on Long Island except in the boroughs of New York City and for guns classified as assault weapons that you claimed after the 2013 ruling and before the end of 2014. In New York City, all the 5 boroughs, you either have to have a concealed weapon permit or if you have a possession permit, you are only allow to transport the firearm to and from a range in a locked container with no ammo in that container. Stop for lunch, drop you guns off home first or you are technically in violation of the law. Have a permit in a county outside of New York City? You can then transport your handguns the same way, through the 5 boroughs of New York City, but technically can not stop except for traffic.

I couldn't live there, wouldn't live there. Nor would I make excuses for the politicians calling the shots there.

Politicians and activist judges get all excited when they read "well regulated". Context and intent mean nothing so long as it can be twisted to fit their agenda.

About 10 years ago, a Roanoke, VA. 'journalist' did this very same thing - with a list of all of the concealed handgun permit holders in the state. He did it on the day of the anniversary of the Freedom of Information Act being passed. The rather liberal leaning newspaper, backed him on his move, and he seemed gleeful at how he had thought he had embarrassed gun owners here in Va. Several hundred female CHP holders - many who also had restraining orders against ex-husbands/ ex-boyfriends were furious.

It took all of about 3 hrs. for him to start whining and crying, when community members began posting his home address, driver's license information, banking information, criminal records, college transcripts, etc. online.

LMAO. Thank you for that story. Sometimes shaming works. Sometimes you overestimated your popularity.

I'm curious to know if anyone has heard about the insane SB 501 they are trying to get passed here in Oregon, that will not only require registration, require a permit for both pistols and long guns from law enforcement, background checks, limit you to only 20 RDS per month, limit clips to 10 RDS but get this you will have to register your ammo, how the hell do you register ammo, where the serial number on the bullet? They have lost their minds here and you thought California was bad!
