Suppressor Threads

I have three good Shilen barrels that have been threaded 3/4X28 for Holland brakes. The noise and concussion have worn me down. I am looking for a suppressor and the only one that makes one in this thread is Thunder Beast. Of course they are five months out if I order one. Everyone makes a 5/8X24. Can my 3/4X28 be turned down and rethreaded?

The simple answer is yes. Do youself a favor and have the work done with suppressor in hand. This should be a class 3 thread and a very nice fit. Specs are tight on this class of thread and I always insist on mating part in hand for a hastle free job for myself and the customer.

suppressor threads have to be dead nutz or you will get a baffle strike. In my shop when a job such as this comes through i demand we cut the old threads off and start fresh. you only loose a little length and you will receive a better product because of it.

A fresh crown never hurts.

I got a set of 223/308 alignment rods from surefire. They're spendy but sure make me feel better.

I actually was lucky enough to find a direct thread 3/4X28". Thanks for the tip on the thread fit. If it is not snug, I will have the barrels cut off and redone. The suppressor is a .30 cal and all I plan to use it on now are 6.5s and 6mm. Thanks for all the help gentlemen.

What Skeetlee said.
I have done the trig, and on a 7" suppressor if you're threads are off by as little as 1/4 of a degree you will have a baffle strike. The threads need to be good and straight to the bore! To say the least. I have a few range rods I made up that are known to be straight that are a snug fit in the bore. The suppressor is screwed on, range rod installed and there better be clearance around the rod at the end of the suppressor! Has not failed me yet.

Suppressors are very popular here in
the UK,with fox shooters and deer stalkers.
I fit quite a few.i cut all threads to spec using screw ring gauges.mainly M14x1
or M18x1 these are very common.threads vary on different suppressors, they can be tight.the ring gauges are your insurance.
Threads need to be good but the shoulder is the most important..square to the bore.

How would cutting the old threads off improve the job? The minor diameter of the existing threads is larger than the major diameter of the new threads. If you indicate the bore, turn down the old threads, and re-face the shoulder, how would this be less precise than cutting the old threads off?

I wouldn't rely on the thread for precision alignment. Yes the threads need to be concentric to the bore. I've got no control over the threads of mating part. IMO it's the shoulders that count. I also don't see any benefit to cutting the existing thread off. I'd turn it down and rethread. I see you've found a 3/4x28. If you hadn't there are plenty of shops that can make one.

If the shoulder is not square to the bore
You will get a bullet clip a baffle.the shoulder is the final stop for the moderator.customer came with a tikka
595.some one had so called accurized
the action.he was zeroed at 100yds,when he shot at longer distances bullet strikes
we're to the left and moved more as he extended his range.when barrel was screwed on hand tight action face was
23thou out of square...keep em square.
