Suppressor Material

I'm looking at buying my first "can" and I decided to swing by one of our local gun shops. I was really surprised at price difference from the low end to the high end ($300 to $1400). The highest cost can was made of a mixture of Ti and 3D printed material; while the lower cost were mostly metal. Weight wise, I think the sales dude said the high-end can was 1/3 the weight of the lower ends.

I'm in the process of putting my PRS rifle together and will mostly be using it for the "belly matches" in Raton, NM. So far I have the chassie, barrel, action, scope, bullets, Peterson brass, powder, primers, and dies.

Off the top of my head, Im guessing the rifle is sitting at 11 pounds without a full mag, and I might add brass weights to the chassis to help with recoil. The rifle is already getting long in the tooth at about 42 inches which is a guess right now. I'll get the exact length when I get home but it's getting long.

My budget for a suppressor is about 1k but if a $300 suppressor will do the job, I'll take that. The sales dude was really pushing a $1200 9.5 in can because it was the lightest and greatest.

I just want to know if I should go for the $1200 can or save some money and go with an all metal can? My way of thinking is the extra weight at the end of the barrel will help with muzzle rise and help with recoil a little.

Ok
Aside from looking and sounding cool, what is the purpose of the can in your situation?
I want this build for next year's shooting matches. I'm just tired of being "that guy" who everyone doesn't want on their squad. I was using a .284 winchester rifle loaded with a light bullet and lighter charge but it had a break on it.

Buy the suppressor and enjoy! Obviously the lighter the can the better. You'll find you use it more than you thought ; ) Silencer Central and Capital Armory will ship the cans directly to your front door. Doesn't get any easier than that! Look for something that will handle more than you intend to need now. I have friends that bought cheap cans (years ago) but wish they had magnum rated ones now.

I've been shooting the monthly match in
Raton for 12 years or so if that's the one your talking about. My absolute favorite match, great venue, well run, and the scenery is hard to beat. Not all squads are Suppressor only, it use to be one or two. It's definitely getting to be more suppressed. Wyco has a few suppressor only matches too.
I wouldn't cheap out on your first, maybe only can. I'm a TBAC fan boy, but there are others that just as good. 1st priority for me is repeatability, 2nd is noise suppresion, 3rd is weight. Edit to add customer service as a priority. Besides, once you do it, it's pretty much yours forever. There are always 50% certs. flying around for sale too. I've personally given a couple away.. Thunderbeast is very generous in supporting matches. Get a 30 cal can, and run it on everything.

No to the 30 cal, Get a 36 cal can and run it on everything!! That way you can run it on a 9mm PCC when you decide to buy one now that you have a suppressor!! Trust me! I run 30 cals through a 46 caliber can and the suppression is still fantastic ; ) If it is a decibel or two louder than a true 30 cal can your ears can't tell.

"Get a 36 cal can and run it on everything!!" Good plan. I use a 30 cal on my 22 Magnum rabbit gun, and my 222. ( Same can) I'm not planning on a 9mm carbine'cos they are illegal down here. I also have a factory can on my 30 BLK, which I can use on other rifles.

Thank you for everyone's replies. I'm going with the $1200 can. Not sure which suppresser he wanted me to buy but he did say it normally cost $1400 but will let it go for $1200 if I can come up with the money in the next ew days. The suppressor is a CGS made and located here in my state, Artesia, New Mexico.

Moondog,
I think I made it to 4 of the matches this year and I was hooked on the first match. It's so much fun, and the other shooters was supportive and answered all my questions.

Just make sure they have a NO BS warranty! Not all suppressor makers back up their stuff like they should.

I agree, that $1000+ you'd spend on it would be better spent in other places that could truly make a better difference in your game!
I care less about looking cool and I despise cliques. I drove a minivan for years because it was very useful. I prefer shooting pcp bullpups because I'm more of a hunter then benchrest shooter.
I know for most things in life, you get what you pay for but sometimes higher cost is for looks then function. This is why I posted this question, is a $400 to $600 can just good as a $1200 to $1500 can and is the only thing different is just the material used?

Have you looked at any reviews between the high end and low end cans...? Because the high end one is made out of titanium probably isn't going to make it better, just more expensive. If they have comparable decibel reduction, I think that's likely a scenario where they would perform equally well, just one is lighter and more expensive....

Before you buy a no name or lesser name suppressor, go to silencer central website, look around and give them a call. A Banish 30 will cost you $999 and is a great unit - read about it and talk to one of the sales people - I have one and could not be happier and everyone one I have recommend them to has made a purchase.

I looked around and studied quite a bit before I bought mine. There is a lot of cheap junk out there now. I wanted one that came apart for cleaning, I know others are perfectly happy with their welded ones.
I wish I had one 40 years ago.

This is why I like Bowers. Outstanding warranty & service policy.

Bowers says full auto rated is full auto rated. You melt it on a belt fed, he will warranty it. At one point, he warrantied a can plugged solid with bullets. There may still be photos floating around, I remember seeing them floating around subguns before it went defunct.
