Superperformance Update

Has anyone been using this powder? I have a pound of it and would like to get some up to date feedback on it. I will be using it in my .257 Roberts A. I. today. There was some data in the Sierra Loading manual. I went on Hodgdon's site and there are not listings for what I wanted to try. I want to try it in my .300 H & H.

The reason Hodgon will not give you what you ask for is, they will say there are other powders that are better for that round. LAME but true Tommy Mc I have been down that rabbit hole.

I've used Superformace in my .243 with 65 Hor., 69 Bergers, and both Speer and Sierra 70 grain bullets. In my preliminary testing, it worked well with all.

My best group was 0.278 inches (5 shots, 100 yards) with the (now discontinued) Bergers.

I have yet to spend the time with other bullets that is necessary to flesh out the true potential of the propellant, but my gut and my preliminary findings suggest I'll find a bullet accurate enough to make me as happy as I am with the Berger 69s.

Maybe that will help. That data is out of the Hornady 11th edition reloading manual. 257 Roberts. Might help get started.

I'm building a .25 Winchester Super Short Magmun long-range target rifle...
...and since the Shilen barrel is still months away, I've had much time to collect supplies, tools, and reloading data*.. I've scoured the seven-or-eight manuals and online published data for the higher-velocity loads for bullets starting at 110 grains.. SPRfmc works very well in this .25WSSM and is on my short list of powder candidates**.

I read somewhere that Hodgdon has stated that SPRfmc works best in somewhat rare combinations of load density and burning-rate requirements.

* I'll e-mail this highly selective list of published loads--it contains NO powders from VV, Norma, or the Western/Accurate/Ramshot group--in .XLS format to anyone who PMs me their e-mail address; there's nothing confidential or secretive in it.

** Also on that list are H4350, R17, R19, 760, and IMR 4955.. The latter is an Enduron powder next slower than SPRfmc in Hodgdon's burning-rate chart.. I also will buy at least a couple pounds of the newish VV N555 (if I can ever find it) and IMR 7828SC.

I use it in my RPR in 6.5 CM with 147g ELD-M projectiles and have gotten quite a few 3/8 MOA's at 1000 yards. And I've had a couple of 1/4 MOA's at a 1000 yards with the Berger 144g. I'm about 125 fps faster than any other powder out there for a CM.

I've also used it in my RPR in 6.5 CM and the best accuracy I've gotten is a .24 MOA group at 1000 using Hornady 140 gr ELD-Ms. The velocity isn't near advertised speeds, but accuracy is good.

I only tried it in 6mm Creedmoor and was not impressed with it at all. Hodgdon shows quite a bit more in the velocity dept. but I seen nothing to write home about in accuracy.
I'm just like you Bill, its been a little while but I bought 3-4 lbs of it so wanted it to work and I was working on a Rem 280 at the time. I finally got it to shoot decent at least for a hunting rifle but I am not impressed with the accuracy of it either

If you lived in PA, i'd be a willing recipient if you were to donate some. ;)

I have a 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 257 Roberts AI, 284 Win, 280 Rem that i could give feedback on. :D
