Super Pigs from Canada threatening to invade MN

Wild pigs are surviving in Canada, which has plenty of wolves. Wolves won’t stop them. Minnesota does not allow shooting wild pigs. If reported, and confirmed, they will bring in a “swat” team of shooters with thermal, night vision, helicopters, whatever it takes to kill the en tire sounder. Much as I’d like to hunt pigs here, we cant let them get established. They are disasters and reproduce too quickly!

Stupid government will probably protect them like they do wolves and other invasive species entering the states. Some reports say the pigs are already in some northern states anyway.
Yet the powers to be seem to not know it or are not doing anything about it either.

I used to hunt them in the swamp. One thing you learn early on, make sure you notice what trees you’re capable of climbing… just in case.

I’ve seen some really big hogs through the years, with some really impressive tusks. Pretty sharp too. They aren’t dummies either, very intelligent and adaptable.

They’ll probably bus them to to sanctuary cities and put them up in cushy zoos.
Seriously……like so many “dire crisis OMG the sky is falling!” news articles posted these days, I give it a big “yawn”.

From the article:
“Pigs are not native to North America. While they’ve roamed parts of the continent for centuries, Canada’s problem dates back only to the 1980s when it encouraged farmers to raise wild boar, Brook said. The market collapsed after peaking in 2001 and some frustrated farmers simply cut their fences, setting the animals free.”
The author seems to embellish the story with descriptions such as "super pigs". But what bothers me even more is the comment -
"some frustrated farmers simply cut their fences, setting the animals free".

Perhaps some farmers left the pen gates open but I doubt that any of them deliberately destroyed a fence by cutting it - just more hyperbole IMO.

I'm not so sure. A gate left open is my responsibility. Fences cut is plausible deniability... "some activist wackos cut all my fences and let all my pigs out"

The old saying “when pigs fly”……….
A moose is a large critter and can tackle some foes for sure.
A hog is a different subject all together. I suspect hog hide to be a bit tougher than a moose. Having seen what damage can be done with tusk on domestic swine, wild ones even worse.

Poison, doubt it would even be considered, to much collateral damage to everything else.
Trapping by those that know and understand what they are doing can put a large dent in population pretty quick.
From what I see, hogs are like coyotes and cockroaches, you can control them but never eliminate them. Like a coyote, you either kill them or educate them. I believe a hog learns quicker than a coyote.

Maybe they could use the same excuse to build walls on the southern and northern border????

I went through the border into Canada last month. They don't need a wall....tore me down. 5 guys. 2 nice guys, 2 pricks, and 1 moderate. But then why not tear me down? A couple of 76 year old Caucasian terrorists.....thought they really had me when they found a speed loader and an empty holster from my 38 special which was completely legal. Hopefully I pissed off one of the pricks when I asked if they found the compartment with my log chain and jumper cables. He just glared at me....

Coming back into the USA 1 guy. Looked at passports asked where we'd been, done, go ahead.

I was hoping for a free phone, lodging, and a monthly check, but no luck so far......
