Suitable 338 Lapua action.

One of, if not my favorite cartridge is the 338 Lapua improved. It will blow you away with ease of tune and raw accuracy. I highly highly recommend it. You cant beat the Bat ignitor for value in a properly designed action meant for this case. But also look at the Bat HR and Borden bigfoot. Personally I like them as single shots. An HR or Bigfoot single shot would be nice. Now, if your planning to go heavyish then Bat M in a McMillan A5 BR tang stock. Thats the only stock that fit br actions, other than actual br stocks. 30" HV barrels run 300s over 3k fps and I have shot 1s at 1k with everyone I have owned. Just crazy how they shoot. If it was not for the 10 shot groups I would have built one for 1k br.

If you want a factory action some of the large Weatherby actions have a Lapua sized bolt face. Mine is built on a Sako TRGS, mostly the same action as the TRG42 but the sporter model. I would guess there are others I don't know about.

"Sell it and build a 308 like the Lord intended." Seven post later and now you are being tempted to build one yourself?

Long as you understand your and my bad decisions, are just that bad decisions, then i guess we are in the same canoe happily paddling towards the water fall. I built a 338Lap to shoot with my best friend and he moved to Tenn when he retired and the landowner didn't know me well enough to let me use the range and Manatee closed the 1000yd line shortly after.

The 1000yd line at Manatee is back open now.

Thats what I've heard , but I am not going to get my hopes up till I see it with my own eyes. Had new roof put on house and have been pressure cleaning and painting, so i may not make the trip till Feb. The annual pilgrimage to Ft Mead to the Florida Flywheelers to see the tractors and scrounge for mill and lathe tooling. have you ever done the flywheelers?

I did once. If I remember I was around for a race and stumbled on it. Havent been back but it was pretty cool. Forgot all about it until you mentioned it. No need to get your hopes up, the 1k line is open. I have seen it.

I’m thinking of trying the Impact Precision Shooting 787R Long Action at some point.

I am not apposed to a single shot action, but what bottom metal and Magazines are guys using on these big actions for the 338?

Manatee had the 1,000 yard line open in November.

Not that I’m trying to “enable” :)
