Suggestions on a 6mm-6.5 build

If your action is long enough, give the 6MM Remington Ackley Improved some consideration. Norma makes 7X57 brass, Lapua makes 8X57, both could be used as the basis for case forming if domestic produced brass isn't wanted.

Look at the .243 30* shoulder. a little more umph! Feeds great out of magazines. 1-8 twist barrel or 1-7 if you want to shoot the Sierra 110MK.
Straight .243 with faster twist barrel will work also. Heavy bullets
243 30* shoulder. Isn't that called a 6 creedmoor?

243 is a coyote hammer even at 500 it knocks then down now! Sadly my 243 is toast. I'm switching to the 6 creedmoor because I hope the 30* shoulder will cut down on the donut. And Lapua small primer pockets. Mike

I would go with a 22-6MM AI or a 6MM AI with a slow twist like 1 - 13 1/2 and shoot 55 gr up to 70 gr no problem. The speed is unreal and and zero hold over out to 425 yds.

I have them both and you cant beat them for speed.

Stick with a 243 or 260. More than likely it's a short action. An 8 twist in either cartridge should get you shooting the best bullets available for either. Accuracy from those two cartridges is very good with a good barrel.

I may be mistaken but I belive the 6mm requires a LA? My Model 70 is a SA

I am intrested in shooting at the least the 87 gr Berger so 1-8 twist I belive
I have a 9 twist in my 243. It shoots the 95 vld perfectly. 2" groups at 500 yards. Excellent deer medicine as well. The 8 twist will stabilize the 105s very well. Not sure about the 115s but guessing they may need a 7.5. The 8 twist will do very well with everything from light to almost the heaviest available.

I live/shoot at sea level for the most part. It seems like i need a slightly faster twist them most shooting at elevation.

So how does your 8 twist do with the 95s? I would like to shoot 87gr bergers for coyote and a little heavier for deer.

My 8 twist 6br shot 87 V-Max terrible and I got holes that had what looked like the bullet was coming apart. See pic. Same barrel shoots 95 Berger Classic Hunter fantastic. And 107 SMKs fantastic- er. Mike

I don't understand the new barrel / new brass concept. Load development with new brass is a pain since it runs the risk of, and I would argue is more frequently than not, not even being the same dimensions as a standard die. The internal volume is not going to be where it needs to be to perfect the load. FLS brass for sure when switching barrels. But buy new brass? Especially with a 6mm? Heck I will burn at least 3, and close to 4, 6 dasher barrels before 300 pieces of brass are done.

Great. Can't tell the difference from the 9 twist. The barrel is longer on the 8 so velocity is close but a bit more. Seems that it shoots the 105 Amax better than the 9 does out to 300 yards then pretty close after that.

When I posted that originally, I didn't know if your rifles was a long or a short action, or how a Winchester short action compares to a Remington short action. The 6MM Remington works better on a long action but at a gun show about a year back I saw a Remington 700 VLS in 6MM Remington.A friend of mine has had two older Remington 722s in .257 Bob (same basic case) both of them being short actions. This case work reasonably well on the Remington short action, although loaded rounds don't eject well.
