Suggestions for reloading 45 acp

I shot an assortment of primers with HP38 in 9mm; different brands and including SP Magnum and SR Standard. Velocities were all within the same range, usually overlapping at the one standard deviation level. The only outlier was Remington SP Standard which gave a bit higher velocity.

Will .45 ACP behave the same? I don't know. I am at present loading .45s with Bullseye and it seems more sensitive to primer choice.

Done - 550 ordered but will come in pieces 2 to 6 weeks behind in orders and out of stock on a lot

Good choice.
I've used a 550 for 30 years, and never felt the need to move up to a 650 or 1050, even when I was at 1000 rds weekly.
One thing that I consider a must have: one of the ball bearing guides for the primer slide/track.
You have to online (evilbay and others) to find these -Dillon refuses to improve their 550 primer system; I have talked to them
about this at shows; they have the Glock Perfection attitude. The 650 was supposed to have an improved primer system,
but now they've switched the 650 to the 550 system, and renamed it the 750. Dillon will give you free parts parts for life, I know.
But, the primer roller will eliminate several phone calls over the years. Their aluminum primer slide will gall and stick open after a while.
You can take it apart and smooth the pieces, and it will work again for a few hundred primers.
After installing the roller bearing, I've gone through several 5K sleeves of primers without a single sticking primer slide.
If I was starting now, I'd also be checking out the Hornady LNL system, but that wasn't around 30 years ago.
And, don't forget to get a Lee Factory Crimp Die for each auto pistol caliber (especially with Dillon's Flared mouth sizer die).

I'm using 6.0g of TrailBoss, 230g RN bullets on a Dillon 550. Sizing and priming are done separately. I like seeing the powder level in each case as I'm indexing to the next station. What would be another powder that I could see at least 50% case capacity?

Red Dot and Unique are both bulky for a good fill ratio.
I use Red dot with 230 gr. for below 800 fps. and Unique for higher power loads.

Just bought two 8 pounders of HP-38 to add to the 6 pounds I had on hand, I'm set for a while.

Last night I shot 5 round test loads from 4.7 to 6.2 grains in 3 tenths increments, with three different versions of the 200 grain H&G #68 bullet w/ bevel base.

Settled on 5.6 grains, which gives me 900fps even in a 5" Ruger.
