Strange question

Hey fella's this might sound a bit strange but here's the deal, I built me a dandy 243 with a 27" Broughton barrel to shoot the 107SMK's and it does very well, seems as though 2 weeks ago the barrel in my 308 finally gave up after some 8000 or more rounds down the pipe but to the question since the 308 has bit it has anyone shot the 100gr or 80gr gameking bullets from a fast twist barrel? this barrel is a 1-8 twist. I'm a bit leary to use the SMK's but they worked fine in the 308 in a pinch but would rather go with a bullet made for hunting since it's a bit smaller caliber. Later,

Kirk

I don't know about the 80's, but 70 MKs shoot great out my 6CM in a 7.5 twist. I can push them over 3300 without any problems.

KSmirk -

Unbelievable as it may seem, the Sierra 6mm 85 BTHP " Gameking "
out-groups everything else in my 6mm wildcat-chambered
29" SS " 5C"-rifle 1-8 Broughton.

I will be chronographing loads this weekend, so I can not quote you velocity figures; as yet.

My wildcat cases' best load is: 43.7gr I7828 Sierra 85BTHP, and Fed LG Match.

Second best grouping bullet in my wildcat/barrel is Berger 88LD

Again, I'll have to check on the velocity, once I'm all set-up.

But, the 85s are ok in my 1-8.

kirk, for a 243 win.for deer I don't thuink you cango wrong with the 100gr flat base pro hunter.they have thicker jackets and don't damage as much meat.they are also very accurate.the 87gr bthp will work fine on lung shots. good luck and good hunting______treeman

I used Speer 100 gn Grand Slams to fireform some brass in my 243 8 twist. They shot real nice. A bit pricey I bet but I got these cheap.

Thanks fella's! I'm loading Retumbo powder with my 107SMK's with a pretty well packed case and the bullets seated way out there like .010 off the lands seems to like it not a real screamer,3050fps) but accurates as all get-out. I know it's not highly spoken of but I for the most part take neck shots much less tracking :-) but might stretch the range out a bit this year and a good bullet for a lung shot would be nice just in case the range got extended a bit.

So is everyone using the IMR4350 with the 100gr. pills? I thought I might try the Retumbo and see what happens but seems the 4350 is about right for the 80-100gr. bullets, didn't have much luck thought with the 107's. Later,

Kirk
