Twist rate required???

Hi guys, I just want to know if you can shoot the 105gr Hornady A-Max bullets through a 1:10" twist barrel on a .243 win? But i think that twist is a bit slow for such a heavy (long with high SD) bullet?

Has any one done this?

I'm currently shooting the 87gr Hornady V-Max, with great results just wondering for the hunting season in South Africa coming looking for something a bit heavier with more controlled expansion.

Another question, is the 1:10" rate too fast too shoot the 65gr Hornady V-Max? Does over stabilization exist?

I think 10" is too slow. In my 9". it is marginal.

Yes, you can shoot the 65 in a 1:10" twist.

You cannot "over stabilize" a bullet, but you can make it fly apart if the jacket is too thin for the rotational speed.

The reason why I ask about the 65gr is I tried to shoot a group with them @ 300 yards and consistently got 2 shots close to each other(within 1" apart) and the third one way off(about 3 to 4 inches from the other two) but attached is the group I shot (get this sized group consistently) with the same batch of reloads (65gr) @ 100 yards.

I have got an 18x magnification scope. So I do not think the problems lies with either me or the gun.

i have a 50x scope, and how I wish that meant that flyers were not a problem that lies with me...

I have a 1-9 twist in my 243AI and shoot 107 SMK's and my friend has a 1-10 twist and they won't stabilize in his but the 90 Gr. Bergers shoot lights out in his. I'm thinking the twist is marginal at best with any bullet that has a long bearing area and is 100Grains or higher.
