Strange happening with a 9mm round.

I agree with checking the barrel when something doesn't go right.
Running drills and you lose seconds.

The BIG NO NO I caught was
"First, I rescue the case from the trash"

Keep all malfunctions or you may never figure out what went wrong

Two things come to my mind. One the case was not sized down at the base and this caused the sticking in chamber and jumping of extractor.
However upon striking the primer again, it did fire and allowed the case to draw down and eject.
Plus the leaked/blown primer shows that round had too much powder, maybe some extra came out of the measure, thus causing a pressure spike or it could have just had a weak primer pocket.. Just some thoughts.

I keep a piece of lawn trimming line in my range bag just in case I should need to check the bore for obstructions (rifle or pistol). Haven’t needed it yet. The line (bright orange) can also act as an empty chamber flag, works real well for .22 caliber and smaller.

Lemme say this: Why when something like this happens don't we stop and take stock of the situation. Clearly something aint right. But NOOooo, we have to fire the round come hell or high water. In my case it was a 22 rimfire. Shot at a rabbit and the shot sounded funny and I missed the rabbit. I ejected the shell and shot again. Another miss. Exit rabbit. Later when cleaning I can feel a loose spot in the barrel. Run my fingers over it and there is a bulge about halfway up. You know what happened.

When something just isn't right, we need to stop and check it out.

I think you never read the original post. Only ONE round was loaded via a mag which did not fire. This same round fired when the bolt was dropped on it again. Since only one round was ever loaded, IMPOSSIBLE for it to be a squib and another round fired down the barrel....

I read it. You missed my point. OP shoulda known something was wrong and ejected the dud round.. To me his post is confusing. Says he pulled the slide back and no live round was ejected. What I get is there was a live round still in the chamber after checking. We all do it.
