Storing Barrel Blanks

For the first time, I recently purchased a couple of barrel blanks for future use down the road. I plan to patch some oil down the bores and store in Sinclair vinyl barrel bags. The barrels could be in the bags for a couple of years. Will this procedure keep them rust free and in new condition or should I be doing something else?

Appreciate any guidance.

I have a tendency to go to extremes on some things. I have an old shotgun that belonged to my grandfather that i was putting up in storage. I wanted to ensure it wouldnt rust so i stripped the wood off of it and greased it down with a light coat of wheel bearing grease then threw it in a vacuum sealed bag and vacuum sealed it. its been in storage for 17 years and still looks like it did the day i put it in there. Couple cans of break cleaner will remove all that grease if I ever need it again.

interested in this also as i have a blank hart barrel i want to keep rust free for a few years or until my 6BR barrel wears out

I keep my switch-barrel rifle barrels in PVC plastic pipe, bought at the local hardware store. The heavy walled, white, 1 1/2" inside diameter, bottom end cap is cemented on, top removal cap is not, but it's clearly marked as "Open here". 30" section costs about $4. Barrels are stored clean and dry & never had a rust problem.

I also buy the rubber tips for a stool, 1" inside diameter, and they make excellent thread protectors at a cost of less than a dollar each. Push them on when new, unscrew to remove.

Works fine for barrel blanks and fitted barrels.

A few Desiccant packs (those Silicon packs that dehumidify) in a sealed package will work wonders too. Do what you can to remove/eliminate the humidity and keeping the volume sealed after that. I've known a few to use C02 or N2 or welding gas too to purge out their storage (in that case it was a PVC pipe sealed).
