Stool VS Bench Height

With a 35" tall shooting bench how high should the stools be?

We need to make some stools for our benches.

At our range, they offer a selection of stool heights, spread out among the various benches. That way, since the range is not often full, you can look around and swap for the one that is the best fit. Those benches are 34" and if I remember correctly I like a plywood topped stool that is around 18", so for yours, the equivalent would be 19". If I had to choose, I would rather have one that is a little too low, because I usually have something with me, like an old bath towel of two, or a Harbor Freight movers' quilt, that I can fold and put on a stool to raise/adjust the seating height. Of course not everyone has this sort of stuff with them. If you had three different heights that varied by an inch, I think that you would have most situations covered.

At my main range, the benches have benches to sit on, which are removable. That allows us to bring our own stools. The floor is smooth concrete. I have a rolling exam stool, purchased from ebay, that is easily adjustable in height. I have a round platform that sits on top of the legs. When I'm done my relay, all my stuff except the rifle fits neatly on the stool and I just roll it out of the way so the area is clear for the next guy.
